The Rangers have 43 contracts out of their maximum of 50 signed
With the recent signings the Rangers only have one RFA to sign in Marek Hrivik. Depending on how the roster shapes out they have somewhere between 3 and 4 million left in cap space.

There are still rumors around Kevin Shattenkirk trying to get his agent to work a way for him to come to New York where he is said to be willing to take a salary discount to play. Rick Nash's name is still popping up as a trade situation but the Rangers have still not received any legitimate offers but now do have cap room to keep part of his salary in a trade. With touted NHL prospect Jimmy Vessey's free agency looming the Rangers are said to be on his short list as a favorite and the Rangers are interested. So stay tuned Rangers Fans there may be more to come before the 90th season in New York begins.

NYR TODAY SAT 7/23: Gorton, Signings, Cap, TDINYRH

Jeff Gorton brings in RFA's Under Cap Restrictions with Room to Spare
@RNYRF Staff Report
With yesterday's signings of Chris Kreider and Kevin Hayes, the Rangers have $4.35 million in cap space according to Cap Friendly.

With Kreider's arbitration hearing looming Gorton was able to wrangle up a 4 year deal at a decent rate. Kreider will receive the following payout throughout the 4 year span; 16-17: $5 million, 17-18: $5 million, 18-19: $4.5 million, 19-20: $4 million. The deal includes an 11-team no-trade list in the final two-years of the deal. Kreider reportedly insisted on a 4 year deal.

Hayes' signing came soon after with a 2 year, $2.6 million contract with a payout of $2.1 million this season, along with a $500,000 signing bonus and have a salary of $2.6 million for the 2017-18 season.

With recent RFA signings of J.T. Miller, Dylan McIlrath, Josh Jooris and now with Kreider's contract in what seems to be the fair market value for a player with his point production and Hayes which some think was just a bit higher than norm Gorton has shown patience and "smarts" in his first full offseason. The moves so far show that Gorton is committed to the "younger" players and the days of just trading away talent for a win now scenario or just to make a trade to clear cap space are coming to an end. What remains to be seen if any more moves are made before the start of the 2016-2017 season are made to improve the team to get the Rangers back once again to the Stanley Cup Finals or head them into a partial rebuild.

Below is a bio on Zibanejad.

NYR TODAY TUES 7/19: Brassard Trade Fallout, Alumni Birthdays

Rangers Shake Things Up
Looking to add some "new blood" into the lineup the New York Rangers traded away fan favorite Derick Brassard to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for young forward Mika Zibanejadand a 2nd round pick in the 2017 NHL entry Draft. Zibanejad has one-year left on his contract with a $2.625M and will be an RFA come next season. In what looks to be both a shakeup and a "salary dump" for the Rangers with Brassard due 5M for the next 3 years with a no trade clause attached most fans seem annoyed by the move as Brassard seemed to be coming into his own in New York. Whether this is just the tip of the iceberg for moves by GM Jeff Gorton this off season remains to be seen but, the consensus around the league is the Rangers are not done yet.

RANGERS CAP SITUATION
RNYRF Staff Report

As it stands after J.T. Miller's contract signing with a hit of 2.5M the Rangers have close to a 9.6M cap ceiling to sign restricted free agents Kevin Hayes, Dylan McIlrath and Chris Kreider. Both Hayes and McIlrath are expected to garner around 1M each if they go to arbitration which leaves a fair amount to resign Kreider even if he does reach arbitration and is awarded what many think will be close to 4.25M per year. That doesn't leave much room for any additional signings before the season starts in October but the Rangers are expected to still have a chance of making roster moves come training camp via trades when the market picks up.
