RANGERS FALL TO ISLANDERS 2-1

BARCLAYS CENTER WOES CONTINUE

Despite taking a first period lead on a power play goal from Kevin Hayes the Rangers could not hold the lead in the second period as Islanders defenseman Thomas Hickey and forward Anthony Beauvillier tallied goals just 2:32 apart.

The Rangers had the edge out shooting the Islanders 35-12 but could not take advantage with little quality chances including a 4 minute power play after Rob O’Gara was cut on the lip by a high stick from Islanders Shane Prince. The man advantage was negated with 1:10 remaining when John Tavares was slashed by Ryan Spooner heading in on a shorthand attempt,

Since the Islanders moved to Brooklyn from Long Island the Rangers have not gained a victory at the Barclays, going 0-5-1. The Rangers have also had their troubles with goaltender Jaroslav Halak, having lost 7 of 8 contests.

With the loss to the Rangers slipped into last place in the Metropolitan Division trailing the Islanders by 1 point with 1 game remaining. The Blueshirts end the 2017-2018 campaign in Philadelphia on Saturday when they face the Flyers.
