NEW YORK – The New York Rangers on Friday announced the signing of free-agent forward Brandon Pirri.
Pirri split his third full NHL season with Anaheim and Florida, collecting 14 goals and15 assists for 29 points with 30 PIM in 61 games set career highs in points, assists and games played. He Earned a career-tying 1-2=3 points on Mar. 24 in his hometown of Toronto for his first points as a Duck. He missed the final five games of the regular season with an upper-body injury was also sidelined for his first 13 games with the Ducks recovering from an ankle sprain.
The forward recorded the game-winning goal Feb. 9 at the Sabres and recorded a goal and an assist Feb. 4 against Detroit. He recorded points in three consecutive games (2-1-3, Jan. 2-5), and scored shootout GDG on Dec. 22 against the Senators. Pirri recorded points in career-high five consecutive games (Dec. 8-17), and had a career-high three point night (1-2-3) Dec. 17 at New Jersey.
Pirri recorded two assists Nov. 21 against the Rangers, and also became first NHL player to record a penalty shot goal and shootout winner in same game Nov. 14 at Tampa Bay. He recorded a power-play goal Nov. 5 at San Jose, and scored first goal of the season Oct. 17 against Dallas, along with recordin two assists Oct. 10 against the Flyers.
The 6'0", 183-pounder recorded 2-5=7 points along with a +5 rating during a career-high five-game scoring streak with the Panthers from Dec. 8-17 capped the streak with his first career three-point game (1-2=3) in a 5-1 win on Dec. 17 @ NJ
Pirri was part of the ECAC All-Rookie Team (2010), and won the John P. Sollenberger Trophy (AHL - Top Scorer) in 2013.
Pirri was traded to Florida by Chicago for Florida's 3rd round choice (later traded to Nashville Nashville selected Justin Kirkland) in 2014 Entry Draft and Florida's 5th round choice in 2016 Entry Draft, March 2, 2014. Panthers Executive Vice President and General Manager Dale Tallon announced on Feb. 29 that the Panthers acquired a 2016 sixth round draft pick from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for Pirri.
Pirri was drafted 59th overall in the second round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by Chicago.
