New York Rangers vs Pittsburgh Penguins Post Game Morning Review
@RNYRF Staff Report
RANGERS FALL TO PENS 5-3
The Rangers came out firing on all cylinders in the opening period of the Metropolitan Division match up vs the Penguins yesterday at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers dominated, keeping play alive in the Pens Zone until just under 12 minutes in when Pittsburgh's Patric Hornqvist scored on the power play. New York didn't let down and continued their assault on Pens goalie Marc Andre Fleury but couldn't cash in until Chris Kreider put one past Fleury on a beautiful feed from Kevin Klein. Heading into the second period knotted at one, the Rangers came out the complete polar opposite as they had to start the game, looking flat and outmatched for most of the period. The Pens Conor Sheary gave Pittsburgh the lead 7:30 into the middle period until just over a minute later while on the power play the Rangers tied the game at two on a goal by Derick Brassard who returned to the lineup after a one game absence with flu symptoms. With under 5:00 remaining Sheary again puts the Pens in the lead heading into the third period. The third period started out with both teams getting opportunities in opposing ends. The Rangers cashed in just past the 5 minute mark when Captain Ryan McDonagh scored on a "Leetch-esque" type goal on Fleury. Rangers Eric Staal had a missed opportunity when in on a breakaway was hooked from behind and thwarted by a Pens defender. Another of many missed calls in this game by officials. Former Ranger Matt Cullen put the Pens in the lead for good a minute past the halfway mark of the final period and Sidney crosby added an empty net goal after the Rangers pulled goaltender Henrik Lundqvist for the extra skater giving the Pens the 5-3 win. The loss was the Rangers second in two games having previously gone 12 games wining the game after a loss.
NYR Injury Report: $th line wing Tanner Glass was a scratch due to an upper body injury suffered in the prior game in Detroit vs the Red Wings
