Rangers' Nash to reunite with old linemates
Season series: The New York Rangers defeated the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 22 when Mats Zuccarello scored a power-play goal 2:37 into overtime. Derrick Brassard scored twice for the Rangers; Corey Perry and Rickard Rakell had goals for Anaheim.
Rangers team scope: Forward Rick Nash, who missed 20 games with a bone bruise to his left leg before returning for games Saturday and Sunday, had a maintenance day Tuesday and didn't skate, but will be reunited with Zuccarello and Brassard in the opener of the Rangers' three-game California trip after playing with Eric Staal and Victor Stalberg last weekend. "That's one of the reasons I've decided to put [Nash] back with those guys; he's had the most success with Brass and Zucc and we need to get him going, so we're sort of going back to the well," coach Alain Vigneault told Blueshirtsunited.com after practice. "Those guys have all played well together. It's not an ideal schedule with all the back-to-backs for [Nash] to find his rhythm. But that's what we have here, so I figured it's best to put him back with the guys he's had good success with." Fourth-line forward Tanner Glass, who didn't play in a 5-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday, is expected to return. Backup goaltender Antti Raanta, 4-1-0 in his past five games, will start in the front end of a back-to-back. Henrik Lundqvist is expected to start Thursday at the Los Angeles Kings.
