Henrik Lundqvist returned to the lineup playing for the first time since December 6th and backstopped the Rangers with 27 saves to a 2-0 Win over the Dallas Stars. Rick Nash who missed the previous 3 games due to a groin injury picked up the Game Winner with a shorthanded goal at 7:08 of the 3rd period on a breakaway.
Lundqvist did not get his second shutout of the season because he missed 5:31 in the first period after Cody Eakin crashed into him behind the net at 9:19. Eakin received a 5 minute major for charging and a game misconduct. Eakin should earn himself a suspension for the hit as it looked to be a clear intent to injure as he did not try to move away from Lundqvist put angled his shoulder into his head intentionally.
Mats Zuccarello added an empty net goal late in the third to finish off the night. The Goal was Zuccarello's 8th of the season and first in the last 14 games.
The Rangers now have earned at least 21 wins in their first 32 games of a season for the 5th time in team history (41-42, 70-71, 71-72, 93-94, 16-17).
The Rangers return to action on Saturday taking on the Predators in Nashville at 8:00 PM.
