GAME DAY NEWS AND NOTES 12/18
NY RANGERS:
OFFICIAL: #NYR have recalled goaltender Magnus Hellberg and defenseman Chris Summers from @WolfPackAHL. Skjei has been assigned to Hartford.
Tonight will be the first game in franchise history that both of #NYR's dressed goaltenders are Swedish-born.
#NYR @chri5ummers will wear #55 and @Mulle45 will be #45.
Cap issues were said to have forced the Rangers to move Kevin Klein to the IR and the cause of Brady Skjei being sent back to Hartford. Skjei's cap hit is $950,000 while Chris Summers is only $600,000 in addition to Magus Hellberg's $625,000.
Rangers coach Alain Vigneault will address the media in Winnipeg at 6 p.m. New York time, no doubt to discuss these moves and, possibly, offer an update on Raanta’s status. Roomers on Raanta's condition is that it might be worse than a concussion but as of now Rangers are classifying it as an "upper Body" or head injury.
Both Manus Hellberg and Chris Summers have arrived in Winnipeg to join the Rangers. Hellberg will be backup to Henrik Lundqvist. Summers will be in the Rangers Lineup tonight replacing the demoted Brady Skjei.
NHL:
Former NY Ranger & Veteran Journeyman John Scott has been placed on waivers by the Arizona Coyotes. The 6'8" Defenseman/Winger Scott has played nine games this season, with just three of those games coming in the month of December.
The NHL Holiday Roster Freeze begins tonight at midnight, this prevents any players on NHL active rosters or injured reserve from being traded, waived or loaned from midnight (local time) Dec. 19 until midnight (local time) on Dec. 27. There are a couple of exceptions to this rule. Teams may sign players during the roster freeze or call up players if roster space becomes available. Also, if a player is placed on waivers before Dec. 19, he must immediately report to any team that claims him during the Holiday Roster Freeze period. NHL clubs also can make any roster moves necessary to come into salary-cap and roster limits when removing a player from the Bona Fide Long-Term Injury/Illness Exception.
