NYR Alumni Birthday 12/30: Lester Patrick D (13 as head coach; 20 as general manager)
Patrick achieved legendary status in New York at age 44, when he went in to play goal for the Rangers during Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals. His surprise entrance into the game sparked the team to a dramatic win and helped them go on to win the championship. Patrick had previously inserted himself into the lineup as a defenseman when the team was battling injuries during the 1926-27 season.

1996: Wayne Gretzky scores two goals, and Mike Richter makes 31 saves as the Rangers defeat the Dallas Stars, 3-2. It’s the Rangers first victory in Dallas in franchise history.
