Asked about the third period, Keith Yandle said on MSG that the Rangers "played with confidence" in the third period and that when you are up by one at home you "gotta find a way to win."
Yandle said that the Rangers were poised with the puck, made little plays and did a good job in the third. (MSG)
Henrik Lundqvist said that he was "really happy" with the Rangers third period, they played "smart," made good decisions with the puck and it felt like the first few weeks of the season. (MSG)
The Rangers were out-attempted in the third period 19 to 16 but only allowed three shots on goal. (Hockey Stats)

What happened when Derick Brassard was being yelled at by a ref

During the third period last night, there was a shot on MSG of referee Tim Peel talking with Derick Brassard and Tanner Glass on the Rangers bench.
There was also a shot from behind the Rangers bench of Peel seemingly yelling at Brassard with Alain Vigneault trying to interject and Peel seemingly telling him to mind his own business while he continued to yell at Brassard
After the game, Brassard said that it was a misunderstanding and said that Peel is one of the best refs in the NHL. (The Record)
He added that he took something Brassard said personally and that Brassard was trying to be friendly and asking him how it was going. (The Record)
Brassard said "it was kind of weird" and that he never wants to be disrespectful to a referee. (The Record & NY Post)
Asked about the incident after the game, Vigneault said "it was R rated, can't discuss that one...I think it was just a misunderstanding. It will get cleaned up. I like Timmy a lot and Brass does too. Just a little misunderstanding, boys will be boys sometimes, eh."

What Alain Vigneault said after the game
(Kathy Kmonicek)
"A bunch of smiling faces, fun to see."
On the game, "In the first and third period we were pretty good as far as closing it down when we had to, other than that little flurry they had in the first and then in the third they got none. We played smart, got pucks deep and were able to score the third one to give us some breathing room and Quickie was able to get the open net goal."
On execution, "There is no doubt that a team like us that wants to play fast and quick and go north/south as quickly as possible, a lot of it is dictated by puck movement and that first initial play that you have to make, sometimes it's a small little play or bump, could almost be 60 or 90 ft if it's on the tape it's a lot easier and done with the right execution it makes our whole transition a lot cleaner. We need those guys on top their game moving the puck and when we do we are a good team."
On the PP, ""Well, there is good support and execution. We always have a good net presence, whether it's Kreids or Nasher and that is a big part of PPs having success. You need traffic, goalies are so good in this game and you get traffic for tips and it works out well for us."
On the new lines, "For the most part I think that Dom's line and Oscar's line started off a lot with the puck, good on faceoffs and I liked how we moved it. I thought Brass, Zuccy and Hayes got more comfortable as the game went on. I'll watch the game again and figure it out for the next game."
On the Brassard/Ref conversation, "It was R rated, can't discuss that one...I think it was just a misunderstanding. It will get cleaned up. I like Timmy a lot and Brass does too. Just a little misunderstanding, boys will be boys sometimes, eh."

World Junior Championship Roster 2016: Aleksi Saarela To Join Finland Camp, Robin Kovacs Snubbed http://www.blueshirtbanter.com/…/world-junior-championship-…

Aleksi Saarela invited to Finland's camp for the WJC. Robin Kovacs snubbed. The camp rosters have been announced for both Finland and Sweden for the upcoming World Junior Championship. The New York Rangers have a few players we're going to keep an eye on, one of which being last year's 89th overall pick Aleksi Saarela of Finland.
In a surprising twist, however, Robin Kovacs (the Rangers 62nd overall pick last year) was not invited for Sweden despite posting 17 points in 22 Allsvenskan (think of it as the SHL's AHL) including an assist in four SHL games and six points in as many international games so far this year.
Saarela, however, has had a monster start to the year in Liiga (Finland's professional hockey league). After having a solid four nations tournament Saarela has notched 15 points in 26 games -- included eight goals and 10 points in his last 10 games. For reference, Saarela had six goals and six assists for 12 points in 51 Liiga games last year. You don't need me to tell you he's had some fantastic growth this year and is really finding his game.
Hopefully we see more of that in the World Juniors, where Saarela could conceivably find his way on Finland's top line. It's just too bad we won't be able to see Kovacs, too.
