The game saw a scoreless first period where it seemed that both teams were apprehensive to make the first mistake. The first goal of the game came in the second period off the stick of Pittsburgh's Phil Kessel on the power play when Rangers' Mats Zuccarello was called for hooking 2:08 into the period. The goal came after a Rangers shorthanded attempt came up short and the Rangers were caught off guard on a rebound shot that even Lundqvist couldn't have stopped. The Rangers answered back at 12:38 of the period with a goal by Keith Yandle. The Rangers took the lead just 20 seconds later when Derick Brassard picked up the puck at the Pens Blueline and headed in putting one over the blocker of Pens goalie Zatkoff. The Pens coach called for his challenge saying Brassard was offsides, after the review the goal and the Rangers 2-1 lead stood. Mats Zuccarello added the 3rd Rangers goal just under 4 minutes later to give the Rangers a 3-1 lead heading into the second intermission. The Rangers started off the 3rd Period strong when Rick Nash just missed a scoring opportunity seconds after the opening faceoff. Chris Kreider put the Rangers ahead for good scoring the 4th Rangers goal just :39 seconds in. The 2nd Penguins goal was once again scored on their power play by Phil Kessel while the Rangers were down 3 skaters to 4 to make the score 4-2. Rangers J.T. Miller had a great road game as he has done all season with 3 assists and picked up the first star of the game for his effort. The Games' second star Derick Brassard also picked up an assist to go with his goal. Henrik Lundqvist was given the Broadway Hat by his teammates.
