NEW YORK RANGERS POST GAME WRAP UP: RANGERS vs PENGUINS

Rangers Wrap Up Season with 3-2 Win over Penguins

Starting off with an extremely emotional night for the Rangers and their fans when Mats Zuccarello won the Steven MacDonald Extra Effort Award. This year with a bit more meaning now that Officer MacDonald is no longer with us.

The Rangers fell behind 1-0 in the first period when Pens' Nick Bonino scored just under 10 minutes in but were able to tie the game on a beautiful end to end rush by Captain Ryan McDonagh and then take the lead into intermission 2-1 when Derek Stepan scored on the game's only power play.

The Penguins tied the game in the second off a goal by Carter Rowney but Jimmy Vesey was able to regain the lead for the Rangers for the final time in the third period 3-2. Magnus Hellberg backstopped the Rangers to his first NHL wWin in his first NHL start with 22 saves on 24 shots.

The Rangers ended the season 48-28-6 and now head to the first round of the 2017 Playoffs against the Canadiens.

NEW YORK RANGERS GAME DAY PREVIEW
Steven McDonald Extra Effort Award Night at MSG

NEW YORK RANGERS (47-28-6) vs PITTSBURGH PENGUINS (50-20-11)
Madison Square Garden, NYC 7:00 PM, TV: MSG RADIO: 98.7 WEPN

The Rangers finish up the 2016-2017 regular season tonight at MSG against division rival Pittsburgh Penguins. In the 5th and final game of the season between the two teams the Rangers come in trailing the series three games to one having won the first game in Pittsburgh 5-2 back on November 21st.

Antti Raanta will get the final regular season start tonight vs the Pens. The rest of the lineup has yet to be determined.

Tonight will be a special night as the Rangers will award the player chosen by the fans who goes above and beyond the call of duty both on and off the ice. This award was established in honor of Officer Steven McDonald, who was shot in the line of duty, and it's in recognition of his spirit as a devoted Blueshirt fan. This will be the first time the award has been given out since McDonald passed away and should be an emotional night for his family, the fans and the Rangers.
