NYR TODAY FRIDAY 2/19

RANGERS VS TORONTO POST GAME REVIEW
@RNYRF Staff Report
Backed by a 35 save performance by Rangers Goaltender Antti Raanta the Rangers pulled out a 4-2 victory over the Maple Leafs last night in Toronto. Raanta put in a solid performance in his first game back since being shellshocked by the Los Angeles Kings at MSG just over a week earlier. The 2 goals surrendered were off a skate early in the first period and on a 6 on 5 late in the 3rd. Rangers Goals were scored by Derek Stepan, Derick Brassard with his 21st and 22nd goals of the season and Mats Zuccarello with his 20th of the season. Brassard's 22nd is a career high and Mats Zuccarello's 20th is the most by a Norweigan born player in the NHL during the regular season.

During the contest with just a minute left in the first period Rangers Captain Ryan McDonagh took an elbow to the head from Leafs Leo Komarov falling to the ice then returning to the bench where he was visually shaken. Trainer Jim Ramsay administered smelling salts to McDonagh before then end of the first period. McDonagh did not return in the second period and the Rangers announced he would not return for the rest of the game. McDonagh had previouly been out with a concussion from a sucker punch earlier in the month from Flyers Wayne Simmonds. Whether the hit by Komarov will be reviewed for suspension will be up to the NHL Safety board, but the elbow to the head was  described as viscious. No update on McDonagh was given after the game and he will be evaluated by doctors on Friday.

With the trade deadline looming it was reported that the Rangers had scouts watching Carolina and Winnipeg along with Edmonton and Anaheim on Tuesday while scouts from Detroit, Calgary, St. Louis, Washington, NJ, Boston, Nashville, Tampa, Chicago, Montreal, Pittsburgh, Winnipeg were in attendance for the Rangers vs Leafs game last night

The Rangers return to action on Sunday 2/21 at Madison Square Garden as they host Original 6 rivals the Detroit Red Wings at 7:00 PM.
