NEW YORK RANGERS GAME DAY!!
The NY RANGERS (29-18-5) return home to take on the NJ DEVILS (26-20-7) TONIGHT 7:00 PM NHLN, MSG, MSG+
Season series: Lee Stempniak scored 3:07 into overtime to help the New Jersey Devils defeat the New York Rangers 2-1 on Oct. 18 at Madison Square Garden. Cory Schneider made 31 saves and David Schlemko scored at 11:14 in the third period in a 3-2 win by the Devils Feb. 2 at Prudential Center. J.T. Miller has two goals for the Rangers. Adam Henrique has a goal and two assists for the Devils.
Rangers team scope: The status of captain Ryan McDonagh (upper body) is uncertain after he left the 3-2 shootout victory against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday with 9:24 left in the first period following an altercation with Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds. Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said McDonagh, who has seven goals and 26 points in 52 games this season, was held out the remainder of the game for precautionary reasons. He will update McDonagh's status on Monday. "I hope he's OK," goalie Henrik Lundqvist said. "He's a big part of this team. We need him. Hopefully it's not too bad." Lundqvist is one win away from tying former Devils goalie Martin Brodeur for the most wins in a player's first 11 NHL seasons. Brodeur, who will have his No. 30 retired Tuesday by the Devils, had 365 wins in that span.
TODAY IN NYR HISTORY February 8
