NEW YORK RANGERS POST GAME REPORT

Four Goal Second Period, Michael Grabner's Hat Trick Helps Rangers Defeat Lighning 6-1

@RNYRF Staff Report

In what started off as a slow paced game, the Rangers took command of the game in the second period with goals from Rick Nash, a beautiful breakaway shot over the shoulder of Ben Bishop. Following Nash were Michael Grabner, Jimmy Vesey with his 5th of the season and J.T. Miller.

The Rangers four second period goals came in a span of 13 minutes. Strong goaltending by Annti Raanta and some sharp defensive plays by the Rangers defense kept the Lightning off the board in the second. The Rangers now have outscored their opposition 16-5 in second periods this season.

The Rangers continued the scoring into the third period and took a 6-0 lead on Michael Grabner's second and third goals of the game. Captain Ryan McDonagh extended his point streak to 7 games with his 8th assist, a career high. Antti Raanta's shutout bid was thwarted by Tampa's Steven Stamkos with a goal late in the 3rd Period.

Rangers return to action on November 1st hosting the St Louis Blues at MSG, 7:00 PM.

NEW YORK RANGERS (4-3-0) VS TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING (5-3-0)
Madison Square Garden, NYC 7:30 PM. TV: MSG NETWORK, NHLN RADIO: WEPN 1050 AM

The Rangers look to rebound at home tonight as they face off with the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight in the teams first meeting of the season.
New York is coming off their first loss in four games while Tampa Bay has lost their last two games. No lineup for the Rangers has yet to be announced but it is possible that Backup Antti Raanta will get the nod in net over Henrik Lundqvist. Lundqvist allowed 3 goals on 18 shots on net versus Carolina in Friday's loss. Chris Kreider still dealing with neck spasms will most likely be a scratch once again as he has only just resumed skating on his own and has not been yet cleared for contact drills.

NEW YORK RANGERS POST GAME REPORT

Tough Loss as Rangers Fall 3-2 in Carolina's Home Opener
@RNYRF Staff report

Despite 2 goals by Mats Zuccarello the Rangers couldn't pull out a victory in Carolina tonight losing their first game in the last four contests. Jeff Skinner was the Ranger Killer tonight with 2 goals and an assist instead of an apparent hat trick. Bryan Bickell wound up with the game winning goal instead with under a second left in the middle period while the Canes were on the power play. The Rangers defense definitely faltered during the contest with turnovers and a late 2nd period penalty taken by Captain Ryan McDonagh leading to the go ahead goal.

There were a few bright spots for the Rangers tonight as the "Hurricane Hunter" Mats Zuccarello picked up his 13th and 14th points in 14 games versus the Hurricanes.

Rookie Jimmy Vesey was all over the ice making offensive plays and back checking like a man on a mission, showing why he was so coveted during the summer as a UFA.

Pavel Buchnevich returned to the lineup after a five game absence and looked good at times but needing to shake off the rust.

Captain Ryan McDonagh became the first defenseman to post a six-game assist streak since Brian Leetch (Dec. 15 - Dec. 28, 2001).

Back to action on Sunday for the Rangers as they host the Tampa Bay Lightning, 7;00 PM at MSG.

Rangers place Dylan McIlrath on waivers

NEW YORK – The New York Rangers on Thursday reportedly placed defenseman Dylan McIlrath on waivers.

McIlrath’s cap hit is $800,000. He can become a restricted free agent this summer. He was the 10th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Rangers.

McIlrath posted 2 goals and 2 assists in 34 games played with the Rangers in 2015-16. He ranked second on the Rangers - and led team defense- men - in hits per game. He posted a plus-one rating while making his NHL playoff debut in Game 2 of the First Round at PIT on Apr. 16.

The Winnipeg, Manitoba native skated in one game with the Rangers in 2014-15, and in 2013-14, made his NHL debut on Dec. 12, 2013 against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

In the AHL in 2014-15 with the Hartford Wolf Pack, McIlrath established AHL career-highs in games played (73) and shots on goal (78), and tied AHL career-highs in goals (six), assists (11), points (17), game-winning goals (two), and penalty minutes (165). He led Hartford in penalty minutes, tied for fourth on the team in games played, and ranked second among team defensemen in goals.

NEW YORK RANGER POST GAME REPORT

Rangers mount another come from behind win to defeat Boston 5-2

@RNYRF Staff Report
Looking as though it was going to be a miserable night for the Rangers and their fans when things started off on the wrong foot once again with an early opposition goal. Just 10 seconds into the first period Boston's David Pastrnak put the Bruins up 1-0. By the end of the period Boston took a 2-0 lead into the locker room and things were not looking good.

In the second period just like many times this season the Rangers were the "comeback kids" scoring 5 unanswered goals to pick up the two points and move ahead of the idle Pittsburgh Penguins to take first place in the Metropolitan Division.

Rangers goals were scored by Brandon Pirri with 2 including a power play goal, Rick Nash with a power play goal of his own, Jimmy Vesey with his fourth of the season and Kevin Hayes who scored the game tying goal with a from behind the net shot off of Boston's goalie McIntyre.

Rangers return to action on Friday when they host the Carolina Hurricanes.

NEW YORK RANGERS GAME DAY PREVIEW

NEW YORK RANGERS (4-2-0) VS BOSTON BRUINS (3-3-0)
Madison Square Garden, NYC 8:00 PM. TV: NBCSN, RADIO: WEPN 1050 AM

Tonight the Rangers take on the visiting Boston Bruins at MSG.
The Rangers are averaging 3.67 goals per game, the third-best mark in the early stages of the season. Their speed could give them an edge against a slower Bruins team playing the second half of a back-to-back set on the road.

Rookie Pavel Buchnevich returned to practice yesterday wearing a red no contact jersey but will once again be a scratch for the Rangers dealing with continuing back spasms.

Chris Kreider is not expected to play vs Boston tonight and is still dealing with neck spasms as reported Sunday, he did not take pert in team drills yesterday.

J.T. Miller did not practice, taking a "maintenance" day off.

While the defense pairs remained the same the Rangers ran the lines of Vesey, Stepan, Nash - Buchnevich, Zibanejad, Zuccarello - Grabner, Hayes, Fast - Pirri, Lindberg, Jooris. Whether or not Vigneault rolls with the same lines and pairings from Sunday will be a game time decision according to the coach.

NEW YORK RANGERS POST GAME REPORT

@RNYRF Staff Report
Rangers hand Coyotes fourth straight loss 3-2

Looking like a bad sequel to a bad movie, the first period opened up with another deflection in front getting past Henrik Lundqvist on the first shot on net as Madim Vrbata tipped one in over Lundqvist's shoulder to give the Coyotes the 1-0 lead. The Rangers looking tired at the start of the game after playing the Capitals the prior night but once again fought back and Josh Jooris tied the game on a mini breakaway goal past Arizona netminder Louis Domingue.

The Rangers pulled ahead in the second period when J.T. Miller redirected a Ryan McDonagh Slapshot at the corner of the Arizona net for a Power Play Goal. Looking as though they might take a lead into the locker room the Rangers were thwarted when off a feed from Max Domi, Vrbata struck once again and tied the game at 2 each.

The Rangers were able to move back ahead of Arizona in the third period when the returning from injury Dan Girardi blasted one from just inside the blueline into the Coyotes goal to give the Rangers the lead just under two minutes into the closing period. The Rangers despite numerous turnovers during the game found a way to pull this one out of their "Broadway Hat" and start the five game home stand with a win.

Prior to the game the Rangers announced that rookie Pavel Buchnevich was placed on short term injured reserve. Buchnevich who has been suffering through back spasms was not quite coming along as he should and the team felt they needed to place him for the time being in case of any emergency call up needs.

Team leading scorer Chris Krieder was a scratch tonight due to reporting neck spasms early this morning to the Rangers staff. He is being listed as day to day but Rangers seem confident it's nothing serious and won't linger for long.
Back to action on Wednesday as the Rangers host Original 6 counterparts the Boston Bruins, game start 8:00 PM.

NEW YORK RANGERS (3-2-0) VS ARIZONA COYOTES (1-3-0)
Madison Square Garden, NYC 7:00 PM. TV: MSG, NHLN-US, RADIO: WEPN 1050 AM

The Rangers (3-2-0) start a five game home stand tonight at MSG taking on the Arizona Coyotes (1-3-0) who have dropped three straight to start a six-game road trip, including a 3-2 loss in Brooklyn to the Islanders on Friday. The Coyotes had an off day yesterday while the Rangers played a tough game against the Washington Capitals last night mounting a four unanswered goal comeback win. Rookie Jimmy Vesey was the star of the game for the Rangers picking up 2 goals in a span of 3 minutes during the second period.

Coach Alain Vigneault wasn't yet decided on who will be in net for the Rangers as of yesterday so look for that to be a game time decision between Lundqvist and Raanta.

Defenseman Dan Girardi coming off a "groin" injury may get his chance to be inserted into the lineup but will yet again possibly be a "game time" decision. Rookie Pavel Buchnevich likely will be sitting once again as he was still suffering from back spasms and has not returned to the practice squad as of Saturday.

Game time start of 7:00 PM for the Rangers and Coyotes will be shown on MSG Network and NHL Network in the US.

NEW YORK RANGERS POST GAME REPORT

Rangers Rally with 4 unanswered goals to beat the undefeated Capitals 4-2

Stating off it looked like it was going to be a long night for Rangers Fans as the Capitals took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. But the Rangers battled back and Henrik Lundqvist stood tall to take down the 3-0-1 Capitals.

The Rangers goals came off the sticks of Brandon Pirri, Jimmy Vesey who picked up a power play goal and then his second of the game just 3 minutes later on a nifty move putting one past Braydon Holtby and finally Rick Nash with an empty net "nail in the coffin" with just 6 seconds remaining.

The Rangers showed what they were made of battling back from a 2-0 deficit, skating hard and never giving up against a Washington squad that was very strong on the forecheck and in the own end of the ice. Great team Win for the Rangers and and even better one for Rangers Fans.

The Rangers were without defenseman Dan Girardi, who skated this morning but was unable to play. Forward Pavel Buchnevich remained out of the lineup with back spasms

The Rangers return to action tomorrow night against the Arizona Coyotes. The first of a five game home stand.
