NYR Alumni Birthdays 8/8:

Bill Gadsby D (1954-1961) Bobby Kirk RW (1937-1938) Greg Polis LW (1974-1978)

Today in NYR History 8/8:

1953: Rangers acquire Ivan Irwin from the Canadiens in exchange for Pete Babando and Ed Slowinski

1991: Rangers Acquire Don Biggs from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for future considerations. Although he never donned the Blueshirt in New York, Biggs would go on to captain the Rangers affiliate in Binghamton and in 1992-93 he authored the most prolific season the AHL has ever seen. In 78 games, Biggs scored 54 goals and added 84 assists for 138 points, the highest total in the history of the American Hockey League. He was the offensive catalyst for a Rangers team that went 57-13-10 – the best regular-season record ever in the AHL – and he was a runaway winner of the Les Cunningham Award as the league’s most valuable player.

1991: Rangers Acquire Shawn Sabol from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for future considerations.

1997: Rangers acquire goaltender Jason Muzzatti from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for the 1998 4th round draft pick (#93-Tommy Westlund).
