Prospect Report: Shesterkin has season debut for the ages

With yesterday's shutout, New York Rangers goaltending prospect Igor Shesterkin became the youngest goalie to earn 10 career shutouts with SKA St. Petersburg.

Shesterkin has earned 11 career KHL SO (10 with SKA, 1 with Spartak) in 62 reg. season appearances, and 10 SO in 53 reg. season appearances with SKA.

The shutout yesterday was Shesterkin's first of the season in his first KHL regular season appearance of 2017-18. SKA defeated Jokerit, 2-0, in the game.

Shesterkin stopped all 27 shots he faced in the contest, including all 20 shots he faced in the second period.

In his last 40 KHL regular season appearances, Shesterkin has posted a 32-4-1 record, along with a 1.60 GAA, a .939 SV%, and 9 SO.

Shesterkin earns ninth-straight win

Rangers prospect Igor Shesterkin earned his 9th consecutive win yesterday. His shutout streak ended at 273:06, spanning parts of 6 games.

Over that nine-game winning streak, Shesterkin has posted a 1.21 GAA, a .955 SV% (233 saves on 244 shots), and 4 SO.

Currently playing with SKA Saint Petersburg of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) Splitting the season between 3 teams, SKA St Petersburg, SKA-Kareliya Kondopoga and SKA-1946, the 2nd overall ranked New York Rangers prospect posted a 21-8 record in 34 games last season. In his 3rd year in KHL Action his best GAA a 1.19 and save percentage came in 25 games with SKA-Neva last season.  Shesterkin is said to be a "Dominic Hasek" type of goaltender who is very sound technically, extremely athletic and very calm under pressure for his age. He moves well in his crease and has a very quick glove hand. He's calm and confident in goal, and he does an excellent job at tracking the puck and has the potential to be a No. 1 goaltender in the NHL.
