Rangers Team Notes: Week Ending 8/20
Rangers signed UFA Providence College defenseman John Gilmour,  a 7th round pick of the Flames in 2013.

Rangers hired Eric Raymond as their goaltending development coach.
Raymond has spent the past few seasons as the goalie coach for the Halifax Mooseheads in the QMJHL. Raymond has served as an instructor for Hockey Canada in the past.
His hiring seems like a move to give Benoit Allaire some help and also to give the Rangers young goalies someone to work with more regularly while Allaire is working with Henrik Lundqvist and Antti Raanta.


The Rangers announced that they officially signed UFA Prospect Jimmy Vesey, beating out 6 other teams that were in involved in negotiations with Vesey and his agents.
 Vesey, 23, skated in 33 games with Harvard University this past season, registering 24 goals and 22 assists for 46 points, along with a plus-11 rating and was a Hobey Baker Award Winner as the top player in collegiate hockey in 2015-16. In 128 career collegiate games over four seasons at Harvard (2012-13 - 2015-16), registering 80 goals and 64 assists for 144 points, along with a plus-17 rating and 66 penalty minutes.

Today in NYR History August 21, 1969:

The Hockey Hall of Fame announces its newest members. included is NY Rangers Alumni Bryan Hextal Sr.
 From the moment he joined the Rangers organization in 1936, Bryan Hextall began to set himself apart as a special star. In his first 18 minor-league games, he led the American Hockey League with 29 goals, prompting a call-up to the Rangers on a full-time basis in 1937.

He would never play in the minor leagues again and would not miss another NHL game for seven straight years until his career was interrupted by his service to the Canadian military during the 1944-45 season. His absence from hockey was then extended by a stomach disorder and liver condition that caused him to miss all but three games of the 1945-46 season.

Hextall was the last Rangers player to lead the NHL in scoring, a feat he accomplished with 56 points in 1941-42. He is also the last Rangers player to have led the league in goals in back-to-back seasons, as he scored a total of 50 in 96 games between 1940 and 1942.

The top scorer for the regular season during the Rangers` 1940 Stanley Cup championship year, Hextall also led the team with four goals during the playoffs. Between 1938-39 and 1943-44, Hextall recorded six straight 20-goal seasons, breaking Bill Cook`s former team record of four straight. he was also named to the NHL First All-Star team three times during that span.

According to Swiss journalist Nicola Berger, Maxim Lapierre may get a training camp tryout with the Rangers this season.
Lapierre, 31, spent part of last season in Sweden and Switzerland. Lapierre played 3 years under Alain Vigneault from 2010-2013 with 14 goals and 16 assists in 149 games.

Rangers Players and Prospects Gear Up for Minnesota Summer League
Led by Captain Ryan McDongh multiple players within the Rangers Organization will be playing in a Summer League in Minnesota. Join McDonagh will be teammate Brady Skjei and prospects Tyler Nanne and Steven Fogarty. So far that makes 2 Summer Leagues Rangers Players will be participating in. The other in Boston will showcase Chris Kreider, Kevin Hayes, recent UFA signing Adam Clendening and prospect Adam Chapie.

Ulf Samuelsson recommended Jeff Beukeuboom for the vacant Assistant Coach job. Beukeboom and Samuelsson were teammates for parts of four seasons with the Rangers from 1995 to 1999. Beukeboom said that Ulf texted him to say that he was moving on to coach Carolina's AHL team and was recommending him to replace him on the Rangers bench. (NYR)

The Rangers are said to have high hopes for Wolf Pack defenseman Ryan Graves and think he may be able to give a "push" to the other D-Men come training camp. Heading into his 2nd pro year Graves has a booming shot and for a "big" man his mobility is getting better. Graves, 21, is 6-4 and 226 and last season for the Wolf Pack, Graves played 74 games had 9 goals, 12 assists, a plus 6 rating, 150 shots on goal and 53 PIM.

2000: The Rangers sign free agent center Mark Messier after Messier plays three seasons with the Vancouver Canucks, and Brian Leetch turns the captaincy over to Messier, who would score 24 goals and 67 points in 82 games that season. He'd playe three more seasons before calling it a career after the 2003-04 season.

Multiple NY Rangers to play in Foxboro Sports Center Summer League

Chris Kreider, Kevin Hayes, Adam Clendening and prospect Adam Chapie are all playing in the FSC summer hockey league.


 Hayes will be playing on a team with brother Jimmy Hayes, former BC College teammate Johnny Goudreau, Kyle Palmieri and former NYR's Keith Yandle and Brian Boyle.


Kreider and Chapie will be playing alongside Noah Hanifin, Charlie Coyle and Scott Darling. Highly touted UFA NHL Prospect Jimmy Vessey also plays in the league. The FSC runs through the middle of August.

RANGERS RUMORS ROUNDUP:
With the Rangers seriously facing a salary cap dilemma there is word that teams in the league are looking to take advantage as any offer for forward Rick Nash has come back at nowhere near worth his value. No specific teams have been identified but rumors of Kevin Shatenkirk from the St Louis Blues, Cam Fowler of the Anaheim Ducks and Evander Kane of the Buffalo Sabres have all been mentioned. Whether there is any validity to these discussions has yet to be seen.

Although the Rangers have been said to received offers for centerman Derek Stepan the Rangers are "very reluctant" to move him. It is also said the Rangers have no interest on moving Captain Ryan McDonagh and have not been shopping around forwards Chris Kreider and Kevin Hayes.

NYR NOTES:
Highly touted prospect Pavel Buchnevich is confident that he is ready to make the jump from the KHL to the NHL. Buchnevich says he is ready for the speed and rigors of playing on a smaller ice surface with more physical play when asked about his being ready he was quoted; "If I weren't sure I wouldn't come here."

Prospect Nicklas Jensen, acquired from Vancouver for Emerson Etem last season is looking to impress this coming September at training camp and make the Rangers Roster. Seeming to "find his game" after the trade, in 41 games with the Wolf Pack, Jensen registered 25 points (15 goals, 10 assists) and a plus-seven rating. Continuing his rejuvenated play into The Men's World Championships  Jensen tied for first among all skaters in the tournament in game-winning goals (two), and he led Denmark in goals and points. Now he looks to parlay the recent success into training camp and the 2016-2017 NHL season.

Boo Nieves extended his point streak to 4 with an assist in Harford Wolf Pack's Final Regular Season Home Game, Nieves has now tallied 2-4-6 +4 in 4 games.
MacKenzie Skapski made 28 saves in the 6-2 Pack Victory. Chris Brown and Jayson Megna each had a goal and an assist while Luke Adam, Daniel Paille, Nick Tarnasky and Chris Summers also scored for Hartford.  Chad Nehring and Adam Tambellini had two assists each. The Wolf Pack remain four points out of the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

NYPD DEFEATS FDNY IN ANNUAL ICE HOCKEY HEROES GAME AT MSG:

The Steven McDonald family droped the ceremonial first puck for last night's FDNY vs NYPD Game. NYPD Hockey won a nail biter 6-5 over FDNY Hockey in what was said to be a thrilling game.

BIOGRAPHY
The key player in the November 1954 trade that sent Allan Stanley to Chicago, Hall of Fame defenseman Bill Gadsby had no problem meeting the expectations of the Rangers and their fans during a stellar seven-year stretch with the team.

Already on his way to Hall of Fame status, Gadsby bolstered his resume in New York by playing in five NHL All-Star Games and earning postseason All-Star honors a remarkable four times — including three selections to the NHL First All-Star Team.

Injury Updates:
Rick Nash skated on his own before the Rangers Optional Practice on Thursday. It was said that Nash skated very hard before his teammates took the ice. Nash has missed 20 consecutive games since January 22nd when the injury occured vs the Carolina Hurricanes.

Henrik Lundqvist also took part in Thursdays optional skate and declared himself ready to play this weekend. Lundqvist stated that he is close to 100% after having missed the last 2 games due to Neck Spasms.

Along with Lundqvist and Nash, goaltender Antti Raanta, defenseman Dan Boyle, and forwards Mats Zuccarello, Chris Kreider, Derek Stepan, Kevin Hayes, Oscar Lindberg and Viktor Stalberg. Marc Staal was not on the ice.

MILLER'S BENCHING
JT Miller said that he wasn't angry about being benched against the Islanders because he felt he was playing like "shit."

TEAM STATS
The Rangers have not lost two regulation games in a row and have won 11 straight following a regulation loss dating back to December 20th.

The Rangers will hold a full-team practice Friday at noon and then head to Detroit for Saturday's 2:00 PM meeting against the Red Wings.

NYR PROSPECTS NOTES
March 10, 2016

Rangers 2015 third-round pick Sergey Zborovskiy picked up a goal Wednesday night in Regina's win over Swift Current in the Western Hockey League. The defenseman, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 195 pounds, has eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points in 60 games this season. His goals and points are career-highs, while his assist total is tied for his career-best.

Remaining in the WHL, 2015 fourth-rounder Brad Morrison picked up two assists in Prince George's loss to Kelowna. The game was Morrison's second consecutive multi-point game, and he now has 26 goals and 34 assists for 60 points in 68 games, all of which are career-highs.

2015 third-round pick Robin Kovacs scored the Game 5 winner for AIK, who advanced to the final of the Allsvenskan playoffs. Kovacs finished the five-game series with a goal and two assists. The team will now face the last place team from the SHL, with the winner getting promoted to the SHL next season.

Zuccarello has 14 goals and 14 assists in the Rangers 25 wins and only 3 goals and 3 assists in the Rangers 21 losses.

Prior to last night's game, Alain Vigneault said that Yandle is one of the Rangers top-six defensemen and that when he is on his game and moving the puck "he is a very good player."

Miller skated on a line with Derek Stepan and Chris Kreider.

The Wolf Pack (19-19-2-0, 40 pts., .500 pts. percentage) have climbed into a tie for fifth place in the Atlantic Division, by winning a season-high five straight games. The Pack started a stretch of five straight road games with a 1-0 shutout of the Springfield Falcons on Friday night. Magnus Hellberg stopped 32 Falcon shots to post his second whitewash of the season in that game, and Marek Hrivik’s late first-period goal was the only scoring. In Allentown, PA on Saturday night, Adam Tambellini’s power-play goal 1:51 into the third period was the winner, in a 2-1 Hartford victory over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Then, in a holiday matinee in Providence Monday, Brady Skjei scored at 1:47 of overtime to give the Wolf Pack a 3-2 win over the Bruins. Jack Combs had the other two Hartford goals in that game, his first Wolf Pack scores.
