Rangers Return Home to Host Sabres at the Garden

The Rangers come into tonight's contest returning home after a 4 game road trip in which the Rangers went 2-2-0. Starting off in Chicago with a 4-1 loss, then to Los Angeles a 4-3 Loss, the Rangers were able to salvage the road trip with 2 shootout victories, 4-3 in San Jose and 3-2 in Anaheim. In their last five the Rangers have a record of 3-2-0 including the road trip and a 5-2 win over the Florida Panthers at MSG on October 23.

Pavel Buchnevich will return to the lineup tonight after a 2 game benching. Coach Quinn is hoping that Buchnevich is "Pissed Off" and ready to "Do Something about it". Buchnevich should be replacing Cody McLeod on the 4th line alongside center Filip Chytil and fellow winger Vinny Lettieri. Yesterday at practice he replaced Ryan Spooner who was on a "maintenance day" during yesterday's drills.

The Rangers (5-7-1) will be playing in front of their home fans for the first time since Oct. 23, when they beat the Florida Panthers 5-2.

Henrik Ludqvist is expected to get the start after sitting the final road game against Anaheimin favor of backup Alexandar Georgiev who picked up the shootout win against the Ducks. Lundqvist earned the win in his most recent appearance Tuesday night, when he recorded 31 saves as the Rangers beat the Sharks 4-3.

This is the second of three meetings between the Rangers and Buffalo. The Sabres won the first contest of the season at MSG on October 6 by the score of 3-1.  Sabres goaltender Carton Hutton made 43 saves to thwart the Rangers offense in the game.

The Sabres come into tonight's game playing the second game of a back-to-back set. Last night Buffalo scored the most goals that they have in a game in almost a decade downing the Ottawa Senators 9-2 at home marking the first time they have scored 9 or more goals in a game since 2009.

After backup Linus Ullmark earned the win Saturday, Carter Hutton is likely to get the start against New York.

Hutton is 4-0-0 with a 1.35 goals-against average and .960 save percentage in five appearances against the Rangers. Lundqvist is 20-13-2, 2.35, .919 in 36 games lifetime against the Sabres.

RANGERS END ROAD TRIP WITH SHOOTOUT WIN IN ANAHEIM 3-2

Once again a late minute goal by the opposition took the Rangers to the shootout for the second game in a row. Just two days ago in San Jose the Rangers let a lead go by in the last minute by Tomas Hertl but were able to pick up the win in the shootout with excellent goaltending from Henrik Lundqvist.

How does the old saying go? "The more things change, the more they stay the same"? "History has a tendency to repeat itself" Or what Rangers fans have come to know the best of all of them,,,"Oh, Shit here we go again".

Another game leading twice in the contest after a second period goal from Kevin Hayes on the power play put New York ahead early 1-0. The Ducks' Jakob Silfverberg would answer back just past the midway point with a power play goal of his own to make it 1-1. The Rangers wouldn't wait long to regain the lead when rookie Brett Howden would tally the Rangers 2-1 go ahead goal with just over 5 minutes remaining in the period. The Rangers would hold the lead for over 20 minutes.

A strong effort during the third period by Anaheim was set back by solid goaltending by Rangers backup Alexandar Georgiev making only his third start of the season which is only a baker's dozen of games in. That lead the Rangers took would last until Rickard Rakell tied the game with the Ducks' goaltender pulled for the extra skater with just 23 seconds remaining in regulation. Another game headed to overtime for New York and another game where a lead was blown twice in the game.

Overtime would prove uneventful as both Georgiev and Anaheim's Josh Gibson would turn aside any opportunities.

Anaheim started off the shootout round with Pontus Aberg who would miss the net wide, the Rangers answered with Mats Zuccarello who scored for the Rangers to take the 1-0 lead, next up was Anaheim's stalwart veteran Ryan Getzlaf who tried to deke Georgiev to the glove side but the Rangers backup was with him every step of the way to make the stop. The Rangers would next send out Mika Zibanejad, Zibanejad skated in made a deke to his left and then back to the right to send the Rangers second goal of the shootout and the game winner past Josh Gibson's glove side.

The Rangers now head home to face Buffalo at MSG on Sunday. They end the road trip 2-2-0 after losing the first two opening games to Chicago and Los Angeles with wins in Anaheim and San Jose.

Rangers Finish Road Trip with vist to Anaheim to face Ducks

The Rangers will look to buld off their 4-3 shootout win in San Jose on Tuesday and pick up their second win of the four game west coast road trip.

The Rangers (4-7-1) gave up another last-minute goal on Tuesday night to the San Jose Sharks, but rebounded to win 4-3 in the shootout and improve to 1-4-1 on the road this season.
The win came two days after the Rangers blew a two-goal lead at the Los Angeles Kings and later surrendered the tiebreaking goal with 55 seconds left in a 4-3 loss.

The loss to Los Angeles allowed the Kings to end a six-game losing streak, and next the Rangers will face an Anaheim team that has lost six in a row. The Ducks (5-6-2) can relate to the Rangers late-game frustrations. Anaheim tied the score against the visiting Flyers at 17:48 of the third period on Tuesday, only to give up the go-ahead goal 21 seconds later in a 3-2 loss.

This is the first of two meetings this season between the Rangers and Ducks. Last season they split the two game series with wins on home ice. The Rangers won 4-1 at MSG on December 19 and Anaheim picked up a 6-3 win at the Honda Center on January 23.

Alexandar Georgiev is slated to get the start as announced on Monday that he would get one of the two road starts before the Rangers return home.
