RANGERS ROAD SKID HITS FIVE IN LOSS TO MONTREAL

Defensive Lapses Thwarts Comeback 5-2

After two first period goals from Montreal's returning captain Jeff Petry, a blast from just above the top circle under 4 minutes in and a breakaway after a defensive letdown by the Rangers with just 8 seconds remaining in the period set the tone of the game for the home team once again.

Artturi Lehkonen added two goals for the Habs in the second period under 6 minutes into the middle frame but the Rangers were able to mount a short comeback with goals from Jimmy Vesey who played a solid game throughout and then a power play tally from Ryan Strome to cut the lead 4-2. 

Tomas Tatar added a power play goal in the third while Brady Skjei was in the penalty box for a delay of game penalty after attempting to punch the puck out of the Rangers zone but wound up deflecting it over the glass.

Montreal held the Rangers to 22 shots against Carey Price while the Rangers handed a total of 41 on Alexandar Georgiev who was visibly upset in the second period with his defense smashing his stick across the the goal post after Montreal's fourth tally.

The loss is the Rangers 5th on the road while winning four of their last 10 at home.
