GAME PREVIEW: Rangers Seek Redemption On Lightning

RNYRF Staff Report
Derick Brassard celebrates after scoring one of his three goals in
Game 6 of the 2014-15 NHL Eastern Conference Finals in the
Amile Arena in Tampa, Florida on May 26th, 2015.
If Derick Brassard had never scored a hat trick in Game 6 of the 2015 NHL Eastern Conference Finals to push the Rangers to a 7-3 victory, well, let's say that it would have been really hard for the Rangers to avoid elimination and force a Game 7 in the series.

But Brassard did manage to pull that off, leading the Rangers to a 7th game in the series.

"Every time we're in an elimination game, that's the way we play," Brassard said after Game 6. "We're just going to go out there at home and try to play our best game."

But Game 7 didn't mean much, as the Rangers would lose 2-0 in their home arena at Madison Square Garden.

The Lightning would advance to the Stanley Cup Final, only to be beaten by the Chicago Blackhawks in 6 games.

The Rangers head to the Amile Arena in Florida on Thursday to hopefully seek revenge on the team that they faced elimination to last season, and to keep their winning streak alive, which is currently at 9 games.

After Thursday's duel against Tampa, the Rangers head to Sunrise, Florida on Saturday to play the other Florida hockey club, the Florida Panthers.

The Lightning currently have a record of 8-9-3, playing 20 games so far this season. That gives them 19 points. The Rangers have a record of 14-2-2, playing 18 games, two game less than the Lightning, but have 30 points.

Obviously, from the looks of everything, the Rangers seem to be off to a better start. The Lightning sit 5th-overall in the Atlantic Division standings, but the Rangers sit 1st-overall in the Metropolitan Division standings.

The Rangers are not just hoping to seek revenge on the Lightning, but to hopefully keep their winning streak alive, which is currently at 9 games. The Lightning lost their last game 1-0 against the Florida Panthers Monday night.

It will be interesting to see how the Eastern Conference Finals rematch plays out Thursday night. Can the Rangers seek revenge on the Lightning and keep their winning streak alive, or can the Lightning prove that they are still the team that managed to defeat the Rangers last year in the Eastern Conference Finals. That, is the burning question that many Rangers and Lightning fans should be asking themselves right now.
