Today in NYR History July 29

1986: The Rangers acquire Kelly Kisio, Lane Lambert, Jim Leavins, and a fifth round pick in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for Glen Hanlon, a third round pick in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft, and a third round pick in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft.

2005: The New York Rangers announce the signing of goaltender Henrik Lundqvist to an entry-level contract, five years after they select him in the seventh round (No. 205) of the 2000 NHL Draft.

To the surprise of many, Lundqvist makes the Rangers at training camp a few weeks later and wins the starting job early in the 2005-06 season. He goes on to win 30 or more games in each of his first 11 full seasons in the NHL. Lundqvist becomes the first goaltender to win 400 games with the Rangers when New York defeats the Colorado Avalanche 4-2 on Feb. 11, 2017.
