Tokarski agrees to one-year contract with Rangers

Dustin Tokarski agreed to a one-year contract with the New York Rangers on Monday.

Financial terms were not released.

The 28-year-old goalie, who most recently played in the NHL in 2016-17 with the Anaheim Ducks, was 20-8-7 with a 2.65 goals-against average, a .915 save percentage and five shutouts in 39 games with Lehigh Valley of the American Hockey League last season. He will compete in training camp against Marek Mazanec and Alexandar Georgiev to be the backup to Henrik Lundqvist.

Selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the fifth round (No. 122) of the 2008 NHL Draft, Tokarski is 10-12-5 with a 2.84 GAA, a .904 save percentage and one shutout in 34 NHL games (27 starts) with the Lightning, Montreal Canadiens and Ducks.

Tokarski is 2-3 with a 2.60 GAA and .916 save percentage in five Stanley Cup Playoff games, all with the Canadiens against the Rangers in the 2014 Eastern Conference Final after Carey Price sustained a lower-body injury in Game 1.

Kevin Shattenkirk signed a four-year deal with the Rangers that has a cap hit of $6.65 million.

Shattenkirk, 28, is a right shot defenseman who has 68 goals and 230 assists in 490 games

Rangers signed goaltender Ondrej Pavelec for one year at $1.3 million.

Pavelec, 29, just finished a five-year contract with Winnipeg that had a cap hit of $3.9 million.

Pavelec was sent to the AHL last season where he was 8-7-2 with a 2.78 GAA and .917. save percentage.

In 362 career starts, Pavelec is 152-158-47 with a 2.87 GAA and .907 save percentage.

The Rangers signed AHL forwards Paul Carey and Cole Schneider.

From the Rangers: Carey, 28, skated in 55 games with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) in 2016-17, registering 24 goals and 31 assists for 55 points, along with a plus-14 rating and 29 penalty minutes.

NEW YORK RANGERS SIGN BRANDON PIRRI

The New York Rangers have signed UFA Center Brandon Pirri to a one year deal worth $1.1M per.

Pirri, a 25 year old 6'0", 185lb Left Handed Shooting Center, had 14 goals and 15 assists in 61 games last season for Florida and Anaheim. 2 seasons ago he scored 22 goals for Florida in 49 games.

OFFICIAL: New York Rangers have agreed to terms with free agent forward Jimmy Vesey.

The Rangers have announced that they have officially signed Jimmy Vesey.

• Vesey, 23, skated in 33 games with Harvard University this past season, registering 24 goals and 22 assists for 46 points, along with a plus-11 rating and six penalty minutes.
• He won the Hobey Baker Award as the top player in collegiate hockey in 2015-16, becoming the fourth player in Harvard's history to win the award.
• Vesey skated in 128 career collegiate games over four seasons at Harvard (2012-13 - 2015-16), registering 80 goals and 64 assists for 144 points, along with a plus-17 rating and 66 penalty minutes.
• Over his last two seasons at Harvard, Vesey recorded 104 points (56 goals, 48 assists) in 70 games, averaging 0.80 goals per game and 1.49 points per game over the span. V
• esey's 56 goals in 2014-15 and 2015-16 led all collegiate players over the two seasons.
• In addition, he tallied a point in 58 of 70 games over his final two seasons of collegiate hockey, including a goal in 44 of those 70 contests.

RANGERS SIGN NCAA UFA D-MAN JOHN GILMOUR

Rangers signed NCAA UFA Defenseman John Gilmour to a 2 year deal adding another high-end prospects to the system.

Gilmour originally drafted by Calgary Flames, round 7 #198 overall 2013 NHL Entry Draft is a left handed D-Man, 23 years old, 5'11", 180lb and is coming off a 9 goal, 24 point performance in 34 games this year with Providence College.

Gilmour has been a key member of the Friars' defense corps and long-term he projects as a competent lower pairing defender capable of playing in all roles. He will likely spend time in the AHL honing his game before reaching the NHL.

The contract is a 2 way deal worth $600,000 at the NHL level.
Hrivik played in five games with the Rangers this past season with one assist, 3 shots on goal, 5 shot attempts, 10:43 per game, 6 hits, 1 blocked shot and 3 giveaways.
He played 68 games for the Wolf Pack last season with 12 goals and 29 assists and 18 PIM establishing AHL career-highs in assists and points in 2015-16.

Rangers, Hrivik agree to terms

New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced today that the team has agreed to terms with restricted free agent forward Marek Hrivik on a new contract.

Hrivik, 24, skated in 68 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL) this past season, registering 12 goals and 29 assists for 41 points, along with a plus-three rating and 18 penalty minutes. He established AHL career-highs in assists and points in 2015-16. Hrivik tied for the team lead in assists, ranked third in points, and tied for sixth in goals this past season. Hrivik tallied a point in 22 of his final 36 AHL games in 2015-16, recording 26 points (nine goals, 17 assists) in those contests.

The 6-2, 205-pounder skated in five games with the Rangers this past season, registering one assist and a plus-three rating. Hrivik made his NHL debut on February 21, 2016 vs. Detroit, and he tallied his first career NHL assist/point while skating in his second career NHL game on February 23, 2016 at New Jersey. He posted a plus/minus rating of even or better in each of his five NHL games this past season, including a plus-one rating in three of those contests.

Hrivik has skated in 262 career AHL games over parts of five seasons (2011-12 – 2015-16), all with the Whale/Wolf Pack, registering 45 goals and 83 assists for 128 points, along with a plus-12 rating and 62 penalty minutes. He has averaged 0.53 points per game over his last two seasons in the AHL (74 points in 140 games). Hrivik has also skated in 24 career AHL playoff games, registering eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points, along with 16 penalty minutes. OFFICIAL Rangers, Hayes Agree to Terms on New Contract

New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced today that the team has agreed to terms with restricted free agent forward Kevin Hayes on a new contract.

Hayes, 24, skated in 79 games with the Rangers this past season, registering 14 goals and 22 assists for 36 points, along with a plus-four rating and 30 penalty minutes. He established career-highs in game-winning goals (three), power play goals (three), power play points (six), and shots on goal (133), and he tied his career-high in games played in 2015-16. Hayes tied for fifth on the Rangers in even strength assists (19), ranked sixth in primary assists (14), and tied for sixth in assists, power play goals, and even strength points (30) this past season. Hayes also ranked sixth on the Blueshirts in assists per 60 minutes of ice time in 2015-16 (1.22). The Rangers earned at least one point in 24 of the 30 games in which Hayes tallied at least one point during the past season (18-6-6 record). He recorded 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) in his final 28 games of the regular season.

The 6-5, 227-pounder has skated in 158 career NHL games over two seasons (2014-15 and 2015-16), both with the Rangers, registering 31 goals and 50 assists for 81 points, along with a plus-19 rating and 52 penalty minutes. Over Hayes’ first two NHL seasons, 39 of his 50 assists have been primary assists, and he ranks third on the Rangers in primary assists over the span. Since the start of the 2014-15 season, he ranks fifth on the Rangers (min. 82 games played) in assists per 60 minutes of ice time (1.42) and points per 60 minutes of ice time (2.30). Hayes has registered seven points (two goals, five assists) in 22 career NHL playoff games.

During his rookie season in the NHL in 2014-15, Hayes tallied 45 points (17 goals, 28 assists) and posted a plus-15 rating in 79 games. He ranked second on the Rangers – and led all NHL rookies – in primary assists during the season (25). Hayes also led the Rangers in points from the All-Star break until the end of the regular season in 2014-15, as he tallied 29 points (11 goals, 18 assists) in 38 games over the span. In the 2015 Playoffs, Hayes became the second rookie in Rangers history to tally a goal in Game 7 of a playoff series and the first to do so since Muzz Patrick in the Semifinals in 1939.

New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced today that the team has agreed to terms with restricted free agent forward Chris Kreider on a new contract.

Kreider, 25, skated in 79 games with the Rangers this past season, registering 21 goals and 22 assists for 43 points, along with a plus-10 rating and 58 penalty minutes. He established career-highs in even strength goals (16) and hits (177), and he tied his career-high in goals in 2015-16 (he also recorded 21 goals during the 2014-15 season). Kreider was one of six NHL players who registered at least 20 goals, 40 points, a plus-10 rating, and 50 penalty minutes this past season (along with Alex Ovechkin, Jonathan Toews, Milan Lucic, Brad Marchand, and James Neal). He ranked second on the Rangers in hits, tied for third in power play goals (five), ranked fourth in even strength goals, ranked fifth in goals and even strength points (35), and tied for fifth in points. Kreider also led the Rangers in goals (15) and ranked second on the team in points (26) on the road in 2015-16. He recorded 25 points (15 goals, 10 assists) over the Blueshirts’ final 40 games of the regular season, and he led the team in goals over the span.

The 6-3, 226-pounder skated in five playoff contests with the Rangers in 2016, registering two goals and posting a plus-one rating. Kreider tied for the team lead in goals, plus/minus rating, and power play goals (one), and tied for fourth on the team in points (two) in the playoffs.

Kreider has skated in 248 career NHL games, all with the Rangers, registering 61 goals and 68 assists for 129 points, along with a plus-47 rating and 224 penalty minutes. Kreider is the only Ranger who has recorded at least 20 goals in each of the last two seasons. He is one of six NHL players who have recorded at least 50 goals, 100 points, a plus-40 rating, and 200 penalty minutes since the start of the 2012-13 season (along with Corey Perry, Chris Kunitz, Milan Lucic, Brad Marchand, and James Neal).

Since the start of his first full season with the Rangers in 2013-14, Kreider ranks second on the team – and leads team forwards – in plus/minus rating (plus-48), ranks second in power play goals (18), ranks third in goals per game (0.26), ranks fourth in goals (59), and ranks fifth in assists (67), points (126), power play points (28), and shots on goal (474). He ranks second on the Rangers in goals per 60 minutes of ice time since the start of the 2013-14 season (1.00). In addition, Kreider leads the Rangers in points (53), plus/minus rating (plus-22), and power play goals (seven), and ranks second on the team in goals (27) and game-winning goals (five) on the road over the last two seasons (2014-15 – 2015-16).

Kreider has skated in 65 career NHL playoff games, all with the Rangers, registering 20 goals and 13 assists for 33 points, along with 40 penalty minutes. Kreider is tied for eighth in the NHL – and leads the Rangers – in playoff goals since the start of the 2012 Playoffs (20). He also ranked second among NHL players 24 years old or younger in playoff goals over the last five years (2012 – 2016). Kreider is tied for second in franchise history in playoff game-winning goals (six) and he ranks 10th on the Rangers’ all-time playoff goals list.

The Boxford, Massachusetts, native was selected by the Rangers in the first round, 19th overall, of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Rangers Agree to Terms With Tommy Hughes

New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced today that the team has agreed to terms with restricted free agent defenseman Tommy Hughes on a new contract.

Hughes, 24, skated in 59 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL) this past season, registering two goals and seven assists for nine points, along with 48 penalty minutes. He tied AHL career-highs in goals, assists, and points in 2015-16. Hughes tallied a shorthanded goal and recorded two shots on goal on October 18, 2015 vs. Syracuse. In addition, he registered a “Gordie Howe Hat Trick” on February 5, 2016 at Portland, recording a goal, an assist, and a fight in the contest.

The 6-2, 225-pounder has skated in 173 career AHL games over three seasons (2013-14 – 2015-16), all with the Wolf Pack, registering five goals and 20 assists for 25 points, along with 109 penalty minutes. Hughes made his AHL debut on October 5, 2013 vs. Norfolk, and he recorded his first career AHL goal, assist, and point on October 12, 2013 at Adirondack. In addition, he recorded three points (one goal, two assists) in 15 contests during the 2015 Playoffs while helping Hartford advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. Hughes tallied the series-winning goal in overtime in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals against Providence on May 1, 2015.

The London, Ontario, native was signed by the Rangers as an undrafted free agent on April 1, 2013.

Rangers agree to terms with McIlrath, Jooris

The Rangers signed free-agents Dylan McIlrath
and Josh Jooris on Friday.

NEW YORK – New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced today that the team has agreed to terms with restricted free agent defenseman Dylan McIlrath and Josh Jooris on new contracts.

McIlrath, 24, skated in 34 games with the Rangers this past season, registering two goals and two assists for four points, along with a plus-seven rating and 64 penalty minutes. He tied for 13th among NHL rookies – and tied for fifth among NHL rookie defensemen – in plus/minus rating in 2015-16, as he posted a plus/minus rating of even or better in 29 of 34 games in which he played. Among NHL rookies who played at least 15 games this past season, McIlrath tied for fourth – and led all defensemen – in hits per game (2.7; 93 hits in 34 contests). He also ranked second on the Rangers – and led team defensemen – in hits per game in 2015-16.

The 6-5, 236-pounder registered his first career NHL assist/point on December 11, 2015 at Edmonton, and he recorded his first career NHL goal on December 15, 2015 vs. Edmonton. McIlrath became the first Ranger rookie defenseman to tally a goal since Ryan McDonagh on April 9, 2011. McIlrath posted a plus-one rating while making his NHL playoff debut in Game 2 of the First Round at Pittsburgh on April 16, 2016.

McIlrath has skated in 37 career NHL games with the Rangers over parts of three seasons (2013-14 – 2015-16), registering two goals and two assists for four points, along with a plus-six rating and 80 penalty minutes. He made his NHL debut with the Blueshirts on December 12, 2013 vs. Columbus.

The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native was selected by the Rangers in the first round, 10th overall, of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Jooris, 26, skated in 59 games with the Calgary Flames this past season, registering four goals and nine assists for 13 points, along with 39 penalty minutes. He tied for the team lead in shorthanded assists (two) and tied for fifth on Calgary in shorthanded points (two) in 2015-16. The Flames posted a 9-2-1 record in contests which Jooris tallied at least one point this past season, and he posted a plus/minus rating of even or better in 45 of the 59 games in which he played during the season. He skated in his 100th career NHL game on February 23, 2016 at Los Angeles.

The 6-1, 187-pounder has skated in 119 career NHL games over two seasons (2014-15 and 2015-16), both with Calgary, registering 16 goals and 21 assists for 37 points, along with 55 penalty minutes. Over his first two NHL seasons, Jooris has been on the ice for only 14 power play goals against in 158:44 of ice time while shorthanded. He tallied 24 points (12 goals, 12 assists) in 60 games during his rookie season in the NHL in 2014-15, and he tied for third on Calgary in game-winning goals (four) during the season. Jooris registered his first career NHL goal/point while making his NHL debut on October 17, 2014 at Columbus. In addition, Jooris skated in nine contests with the Flames during the 2015 Playoffs, registering four penalty minutes.

Jooris has also skated in 75 career American Hockey League (AHL) games over parts of two seasons (2013-14 and 2014-15), registering 11 goals and 16 assists for 27 points, along with 67 penalty minutes. He recorded his first professional goal, assist, and point as part of a two-point effort while making his professional debut with the Abbotsford Heat on October 4, 2013 at Lake Erie.

The Burlington, Ontario, native was signed by Calgary as an undrafted free agent on July 30, 2013.

Rangers Agree to Terms With J.T. Miller/Official Press Release

New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced today that the team has agreed to terms with restricted free agent forward J.T. Miller on a new contract.

Miller, 23, skated in 82 games with the Rangers this past season, registering 22 goals and 21 assists for 43 points, along with a plus-10 rating and 46 penalty minutes. He established career-highs in several categories in 2015-16, including games played, goals, assists, points, game-winning goals (five), and plus/minus rating. Miller was one of two Rangers – and the only forward – who skated in all of the team’s 82 regular season games during the past season. He led the Rangers in even strength goals (20), tied for the team lead in game-winning goals, ranked second in even strength points (39), ranked third in hits (174), tied for third in goals, ranked fifth in takeaways (40), and tied for fifth in points and even strength assists (19) in 2015-16.

The 6-1, 206-pounder led the Rangers in points (28) and ranked second in goals (14) on the road in 2015-16. Miller tied for fourth among NHL players 23 years old or younger in points and ranked sixth in goals on the road during the past season. Miller registered 31 points (18 goals, 13 assists) in 52 games from December 12, 2015 until the end of the regular season, and he led the Blueshirts in goals over the span. He tallied eight goals in an eight-game span from January 16, 2016 to February 4, 2016. Miller, who was 22 years old at the time, became the first Ranger 22 years old or younger to register eight goals in an eight-game span since Alexei Kovalev during the 1993-94 season.

Miller skated in all of the Rangers’ five games during the 2016 Playoffs, registering three assists and four penalty minutes. He tied for the team lead in assists and ranked third on the Blueshirts in points (three) in the playoffs. Miller registered three assists during the second period in Game 2 of the First Round against Pittsburgh on April 16, 2016, tying a franchise record for assists in one period of a playoff game. He became the sixth Ranger to accomplish the feat and the first to do so since Jaromir Jagr in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals in 2007 against Atlanta.

Miller has skated in 196 career NHL games over parts of four seasons (2012-13 – 2015-16), all with the Rangers, registering 37 goals and 39 assists for 76 points, along with a plus-two rating and 95 penalty minutes. Miller’s goals, assists, and points totals have increased in every season from his first season in 2012-13 through 2015-16. He has also skated in 28 career NHL playoff games, registering 13 points (one goal, 12 assists), along with a plus-three rating and eight penalty minutes. Miller has recorded seven points (one goal, six assists) in his last seven playoff contests.

The East Palestine, Ohio, native has represented the United States in several tournaments. Miller registered nine points (two goals, seven assists) and posted a plus-five rating in seven games while helping the United States earn a gold medal at the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship. In addition, he helped the United States win a gold medal at the 2011 IIHF U18 World Championship, as he recorded 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in six games. Miller has been selected to represent Team North America at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

Miller was selected by the Rangers in the first round, 15th overall, of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

RANGERS RESIGN 2, 4 HEAD TO SALARY ARBITRATION

The New York Rangers Announced Today that they have resigned Hartford Wolf Pack defenseman Mat Bodie and forward Nicklas Jensen. 
Bodie signed a one year/two way deal worth $600K. Jensen's deal is also a one year/two way deal worth $600K.

• Bodie, 26, the Wolf Pack Captain for the final month of last season skated in 76 games with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL) this past season, registering seven goals and 29 assists for 36 points, along with a plus-five rating and 38 penalty minutes. He established AHL career-highs in several categories in 2015-16, including games played, goals, assists, and points.

• Jensen, 23, skated in 68 games in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Utica Comets and Hartford Wolf Pack this past season, registering 19 goals and 18 assists for 37 points, along with a plus-10 rating and 32 penalty minutes.He established AHL career-highs in games played, goals, assists, points, and plus/minus rating in 2015-16.
 

 The NHLPA has announced that the following New York Rangers, Chris Kreider, Dylan McIlrath, Kevin Hayes and JT Miller have all filed for salary arbitration.

Tommy Hughes and Marek Hrivik are arbitration eligible but did not file.

Hearings will take place in late July through early August.

Rangers sign Nathan Gerbe and Michael Grabner

The New York Rangers on Friday agreed to terms with free agents Nathan Gerbe and Michael Grabner.

Since the start of the 2010-11 season, Grabner is tied for fourth in the NHL in shorthanded goals (12). He posted nine goals and nine assists for 18 points in 80 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs this season.

With the Carolina Hurricanes in 2015-16, Gerbe was on the ice for only four power play goals against while logging 48:59 of shorthanded ice time. He posted three goals and four assists in 47 games this season.
