NYR TODAY Monday 7/10: Weekly Roundup, Today in Rangers History

Rangers Weekly Roundup 7/2 - 7/9:

Center David Desharnais signed a one-year $1 Million deal with the Rangers.

Jesper Fast signed a three-year deal with the Rangers that has a cap hit of $1.85 million.
The NHLPA announced that Mika Zibanejad filed for salary arbitration:

Negotiations with Zibanejad can continue on a new contract right up until the hearing is about to start.

Defenseman Kevin Klein officially announced his retirement from the NHL after 12 years of service with the Rangers and Nashville Predators.

The Rangers now have $8.4 million available in cap space and currently have 20 players on their roster (11 forwards, 7 defensemen, 2 goalies) and still need to sign Mika Zibanejad to a new contract.

Word of GM Jeff Gorton having extensive talks with both Joe Thonrton and Patrick Marleau during the UFA opening period was reported by Larry Brooks of the New York Post.

Brooks also has linked the Rangers and Maple Leafs on a possible trade for center Tyler Bozak. Brooks mentioned that Toronto is in need of a top four defenseman and Nick Holden has been mentioned in rumors.

2007: The Rangers re-sign Henrik Lundqvist. After back-to-back 30-plus win seasons, the Rangers locked up their franchise goaltender to a new contract. He's remained in New York ever since.
