Rangers Sign Goaltender Georgiev


The Rangers have signed goalie prospect Alexander Georgiev to an entry-level deal that has a cap hit of $792,500.

Georgiev was at Rangers development camp earlier this month and played last season for TPS in the Finnish league.

Georgiev, 21, was 13-8-4 last season with a 1.70 GAA.

From the Rangers Prospect Development Camp notes:

2016-17 Notes: Appeared in 27 games with TPS Turku of Liiga in Finland, posting a 13-8-4 record, along with a 1.70 GAA, a .923 SV%, and 2 SO ... Established Liiga career-highs in appearances, wins, GAA, and SV%, and tied his career-high in shutouts ... Led Liiga in GAA, tied for fifth in SV%, and tied for ninth in wins ... Allowed two goals or fewer in 22 of his 27 appearances ... Appeared in one playoff game with TPS Turku.
Career Highlights: Helped Russia earn a silver medal at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship; posted a 3-1 record, along with a 2.52 GAA in five appearances ... Has appeared in 51 games over parts of three seasons in Liiga (2014-15 - 2016-17), posting an 18-19-6 record, along with a 1.93 GAA, a .920 SV%, and 5 SO.
Goergiev had signed a three-year deal to stay in Finland last January but the deal was terminated by "mutual consent" according to the team. (TPS)

The organization said in a statement that Georgiev practiced "diligently" and that they wish him luck as he transitions forward in his career. (TPS)
