NYR NOTES: Zibanejad, Fast, Desharnais

The NHLPA has announced that Mika Zibanejad has filed for salary arbitration:

Negotiations with Zibanejad can continue on a new contract right up until the hearing is about to start.

Jesper Fast has signed a three-year deal with the Rangers that has a cap hit of $1.85 million.

The Rangers have confirmed the David Desharnais signing.

The deal is for one-year and worth $1 million.

The Rangers have signed center David Desharnais

The deal is for one-year and worth $1 million.

Desharnais, 30, is 5-7, 176 and played in 49 games last season, split between Montreal and Edmonton. He has played in 453 NHL games, has 81 goals, 173 assists, is 51% on faceoffs and has a career average of 16:08 per game.

2013: Rangers sign free agent forward Dominic Moore. After drafting the forward 95th overall in 2000 NHL draft, Moore returned to New York in 2013 for three seasons, helping the Rangers reach the Stanley Cup Final in 2014.

Jeff Gorton said on Saturday that the Rangers have some "ongoing things" in regards to trying to fill the hole at center that Derek Stepan left.
Gorton said that he knows that the Rangers need a center and that they are trying to fix the hole.

He added though that the Rangers do have the "luxury" of JT Miller's ability as a natural center and noted that the Rangers are "hoping" he can transition back after skating on the wing.

Gorton added that the Rangers have talked to "several teams about centers and we will see where it takes us."

Centers who are still free agents include Mikhail Grigorenko, Daniel Winnik, former Ranger John Mitchell and David Desharnais.

Larry Brooks writes that the Rangers inquired about Colorado's Tyson Barrie but were told that the price for him would be Brady Skjei. (NY Post)

After signing Kevin Shattenkirk and Ondrej Pavelec, the Rangers have $8.35 million in cap space, including Kevin Klein's $2.9 million. (Cap Friendly)

Without Klein's cap hit, the Rangers will have $11.25 million in cap space.

The Rangers need to re-sign Mika Zibanejad and Jesper Fast, and without Klein, the Rangers have 18 players under contract.

Rangers Free Agency Signings Wrap Up 7/1:

Kevin Shattenkirk signed a four-year deal with the Rangers that has a cap hit of $6.65 million.

Shattenkirk, 28, is a right shot defenseman who has 68 goals and 230 assists in 490 games

Rangers signed goaltender Ondrej Pavelec for one year at $1.3 million.

Pavelec, 29, just finished a five-year contract with Winnipeg that had a cap hit of $3.9 million.

Pavelec was sent to the AHL last season where he was 8-7-2 with a 2.78 GAA and .917. save percentage.

In 362 career starts, Pavelec is 152-158-47 with a 2.87 GAA and .907 save percentage.

The Rangers signed AHL forwards Paul Carey and Cole Schneider.

From the Rangers: Carey, 28, skated in 55 games with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League (AHL) in 2016-17, registering 24 goals and 31 assists for 55 points, along with a plus-14 rating and 29 penalty minutes.

From the Rangers: Schneider, 26, skated in 71 games with the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League (AHL) this past season, registering 24 goals and 39 assists for 63 points, along with a plus-nine rating and 45 penalty minutes

2011: The Rangers sign free agent forward Brad Richards. The former Conn Smythe-winner played three seasons in New York, scoring 56 goals and 151 points in 2010 games. Richards scored 12 goals and 28 points in 56 playoff games.

RANGERS SIGN SHATTEKIRK, PAVELIC

Kevin Shattenkirk signed a four-year deal with the Rangers that has a cap hit of $6.65 million.

Shattenkirk, 28, is a right shot defenseman who has 68 goals and 230 assists in 490 games.

Pierre McGuire said that he thinks Shattenkirk will "thrive" with the Rangers and that he took a discount and left term on the table to sign.

McGuire said "I know Kevin is pumped to be going back home."

Ray Ferraro said that Shatenkirk is a fabulous PP defenseman and can really move the puck, they shielded him pretty well in St. Louis. I felt that when he got to Washington he got exposed a little with some speed. To go 6-7 years I felt would have been exorbitant but at $6.65 million you are paying for offense. (TSN)

Marty Biron said on TSN that Shattenkirk is betting on himself and will likely have the opportunity to sign another UFA deal in four-years.

Rangers signed goaltender Ondrej Pavelec earlier in the day for one yearat $1.3 million.

The Rangers are interested in bringing both Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton in though it's not known if either player would sign a "one-year, bonus-rich over-35" type of deal." (NY Post)
