RANGERS VS ISLANDERS PRESEASON GAME DAY WRAP UP 4/26

RANGERS FALL TO ISLANDERS IN OVERTIME 4-3

Two go ahead goals were not enough to fight off the Islanders in the final preseason game on home ice for the Rangers.

A blast from Mat Pulock and a screen in front of Henrik Lundqvist early in the first period would set the tone of the game.

Down early in the first the Rangers did answer back just before time expired in the period while on the power play. With the Islanders down a man after committing a too many men on the ice infraction, Pavel Buchnevich would tie the game with just 37 seconds left in the period,

The Rangers were able to finally get ahead of their crosstown rivals with a goal just under 6 minutes into the second period from Mika Zibanejad. The Rangers were able to hold onto the lead for their longest of the game until just under 7 minutes later Mat Pulock once agian struck from the point with a blast that went by two defenders then Lundqvist to tie the game until the third period.

The Rangers once again on the power play, as the Ises' Tom Kuhnhackl took a seaat for two minutes with a holding penalty. The Rangers won the faceoff and Mika Zibanejad was able to pick up his second of the game past Robin Lehner for the go ahead goal. Unfortunately the lead only lasted less then a minute when the Islanders went in on the Rangers on a 2 on 3 rush and veteran defenseman Thomas Hickey gave the Isles the tying goal that would last through regulation.

The Rangers would start off the overtime period with the trio of Lias Andersson, Filip Chytil and Neal Pionk. At the end of their shift Pionk who had just rushed into the Islanders end would get caught back leaving the defending duties to Chytil who could not catch up to the Isles Anthony Beauvillier rushing into the Rangers end, Beauvillier flat out beat Chytil and slid one through Lundqvist's five-hole for the overtime winner.

The Rangers were 2-for-4 on the power play in tonight's contest and have recorded eight power play goals through the first five games of the preseason this year and have tallied at least one power play goal in each game of the preseason.

This was the third game out of five this preseason decided in overtime for the Blueshirts. All 3 games have ended 4-3 with the Rangers coming out on top against New Jersey twice and on the losing end tonight.

Mika Zibanejad notched three points (two goals, one assist), including two power play points (one power play goal, one power play assist) and led the Rangers with four shots on goal.

Pavel Buchnevich registered three points (one goal, two assists), including two power play points (one power play goal, one power play assist). Buchnevich has tallied seven points (three goals, four assists) in the preseason this year, and he has posted a multi-point game in three of the four preseason games he has played.

Henrik Lundqvist made 32 saves in tonight's game allowing all 4 Islander tallies.
