SEASON SERIES: Forward Rick Nash had a hat trick, including scoring 2:01 into overtime, to spark the New York Rangers to a 5-4 win against the Florida Panthers on Nov. 21. Florida trailed late in the third before scoring twice in a 39-second span to tie the game. Goalie Roberto Luongo made 40 saves in a 3-0 Panthers win on Jan. 2. The victory extended their winning streak to eight games and ended a seven-game losing streak to the Rangers since April 23, 2013. Brandon Pirri, Vincent Trocheck and Logan Shaw each scored for Florida.
RANGERS TEAM SCOPE: New York had off Sunday after earning three of a possible six points (1-1-1) during a three-game California road trip. The Rangers held a closed-door meeting after allowing a season-high 52 shots on goal in a 4-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Saturday. "We have to reset ourselves," center Derek Stepan told BlueshirtsUnited.com. "We played some good hockey on this California trip until [Sunday]. Now it's about our playoff push with 10 games to play." Goalie Henrik Lundqvist made 43 saves before he was pulled and is 0-3-2 in his past five starts. New York returns to Madison Square Garden for two games after losing lost four of its past five. "We're going to move on and get ready for the next game, and that's what we have to do," coach Alain Vigneault said.
