NEW YORK RANGERS POST GAME WRAP UP: RANGERS VS STARS 1/17

Rangers Comeback Falls Short lose 7-6 to Stars

In what looked like it was going to be a lopsided victory heading into the third period for the Dallas Stars. The Rangers looked to be on the right track when they opened the scoring at :27 seconds into the opening period by Derek Stepan, but things soon changed when the Stars tied the game on a power play advantage and added another just 12 seconds later. The Rangers trailed 3-1 at the end of one.

Trailing 4-1 in the second period the Rangers were able to comeback with two goals of their own by the just returning Mika Zibanejad and line mate Pavel Buchnevich bringing the Rangers within 1, 4-3. Less than a minute later the Stars regained their two goal lead and added two more unanswered goals to take a 7-4 lead heading into the third period.

The Rangers pulled Starter Henrik Lundqvist to start the third period and replaced him with recent call up Magnus Hellberg. The Rangers mounted a comeback scoring 3 unanswered goals of their own by Chris Kreider, Derek Stepan (his 2nd of the game) and Mika Zibanejad (his 2nd of the game). But the 3 goals were just not enough and the Rangers comeback just fell short of tying the game in the final seconds.

Bright Side of the Rangers Loss
The line of Stepan, Kreider and Zuccarello combined for 8 points on the night while the Zibanejad, Nash & Buchnevich line combined for 7 on the night.

The Rangers return to action on Thursday in Toronto taking on the Maple Leafs.
