The Rangers kick off 2017 at home tonight hosting the Buffalo Sabres. The Rangers are coming off a successful 2 game road trip in Arizona and Colorado. The Rangers were bolstered bt Hat Tricks from Matt Puempel in Arizona and Chris Kreider in Colorado.

This will be the second of three games between the two teams this season. Buffalo took the first meeting at the Garden 4-3.

Henrik Lundqvist is expected to get the start tonight for the Rangers and is 5-0-0 in his last 6 starts against the Sabres with one shutout. Lifetime Lundqvist holds a 17-11-2 record over Buffalo with 2 career shutouts.

The Rangers have once again recalled forward Nicklas Jensen from Hartford of the AHL. Jensen has 8 goals and 5 assists in his last 11 games for the Pack.

Rick Nash is still recovering from a groin injury and practiced yesterday as an extra defenseman. He is still listed day to day and not yet cleared for full contact.

1987: Don Maloney ties a franchise record with five assists in a 5-2 Rangers victory over the Quebec Nordiqes.



1991: Kelly Kisio and Ray Sheppard each tally a goal and two assists as the Rangers defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins, 7-5.
