Antti Raanta takes a shot to the mask (Updates)

11:15PM: Vigneault said on MSG" Obviously he has a head injury. We will find out more tomorrow. We obviously have to do something cap wise here and call up a goaltender for tomorrow. I will talk to Jeff on the way to the airport and we will figure it out."
11:03PM: Alain Vigneault said that he had no immediate update on Raanta and that he would meet with Jeff Gorton to decide what is next. (NYR)
11PM: Henrik Lundqvist said on MSG, "I really hope he is okay. I have had a few of those and if it hits in a bad spot and takes a lot of force to the head, it can hurt."
9:08PM: Raanta will not return tonight for the Rangers. (MSG)
9:06PM: Raanta is not on the bench to start the second period.
8:38PM: Antti Raanta left the game in the first period for the Rangers after taking a shot from Marco Scandella to the mask.
Raanta conferred with Jim Ramsay before deciding to head to the locker room.
Henrik Lundqvist replaced Raanta.
The Rangers would likely call up Magnus Hellberg if Raanta is unable to back up Lundqvist in tomorrow's game in Winnipeg.
10:51PM: On the impact of losing Raanta,Ryan McDonagh said "you don't see it very often. So much prep goes into him starting but you just hope that he is okay. You need to play some early shifts to help the guy coming in so he can get his feet under him and we may not have done that enough."

What Alain Vigneault said after the game

Alain Vigneault met with the media following the Rangers loss to the Wild (MSG):

  • What is missing from the game tonight, "I thought that we came out real well. I liked how we played in the first period, we gave them one chance and they scored on it. Unfortunately we lost Antti on one play. For two periods we are right there and then they got that PP goal to make it 3-1 and after that we didn't manage the puck well and they got quite a few looks in the last few minutes."
  • On things falling apart in game, "we are going into the third period a lot of times trailing and when you are trailing you need to open things up a bit. It's cost us. We get another opportunity tomorrow to get back at it and that is what we will do."
  • On Raanta, "Obviously he has a head injury. We will find out more tomorrow. We obviously have to do something cap wise here and call up a goaltender for tomorrow. I will talk to Jeff on the way to the airport and we will figure it out."
  • On Lundqvist coming in, "it's not the first time that has happened, it's part of the game. Not the first time a goalie has to come off the bench and play. Tomorrow we will have another opportunity to play another game."
  • "They were trying real hard, Didn't get a lot accomplished but I thought they worked hard."
  • On the fourth line, "I thought, like I mentioned that we got off a to a good start and had a good first two periods but the third one hurt us tonight."
  • On Skjei, "he is a young player ,we can all see the upside but this is the NHL and he will get better with every game that he gets."
