NYR POST GAME DAY NEWS, NOTES

What Alain Vigneault said after the Rangers win last night
Alain Vigneault met with the media on MSG following the Rangers OT win over the Ducks (MSG)
  • "There is no doubt that our guys looked at this a a real important game for us as far as how we need to play. We played the right way, defended real well. Didn't give Anaheim a lot of looks. For the most part, they area good team and a tight checking team also, so we had to work real hard to get our looks. Unfortunately they tied it up with a couple of minutes left but we find a way to get it done in OT. Brass' line was real big for us, Step's line did a great job against Getzlaf and we found a way to win."
  • "There is no doubt that the number of goals we have given up in the last few games, we had a strong focus tonight on playing a better team defense which for the most part we did. When you play good defense the offense will take care of itself and that is sort of what happened."
  • "It's important for everybody. Here in the states we say Happy Holidays, most of Canada will say Merry Christmas. For our team, we have been in a real tough stretch as far as number of games and being on the road, coming back from the west, back to the east, back to the west, it's a good break for us. Our guys will enjoy it and our guys will come back focused and ready for a strong second push."
  • "I would say both. The body can take a lot and so can the mind, but at some points you are challenged in both areas. We were challenged in both areas and we will come back refreshed and ready to go."
  • "No, I thought we were playing the right way. We had some good looks, had just missed a 2 on 1 right before that. Our PP had a couple of looks on it. Those are things that will happen. I think it went off Mac a little bit and deflected in. A little unfortunate but you gotta keep playing, play through, Mac caused the penalty in OT and we were able to get the goal."
  • "It's entertaining, I will put it this way. There is a lot more room on the ice for skill players to create some looks and I think that players, coaches and fans are slowly but surely getting used to it."
  • "We obviously, Ulfie did a real good job of preparing our team tonight against Anaheim's PP. We were tested in the third, our guys did a good job against some of the more skilled players in the league. It was good after we didn't have a real good night against Washington, it was good to bounce back this way."
  • "I would say that five minutes. It's tough for players. As soon as you make a mistake, it's an outnumber situation going back the other way. It can be very taxing on players. I don't mind the 5 on 5 and shootouts, but I think that for the most part it is getting done in the five minutes so hopefully it keeps going that way."
  • On the Kesler/Miller fight, "I thought it was good. Two American boys going at it. Loved it."
