Rangers place Dylan McIlrath on waivers

NEW YORK – The New York Rangers on Thursday reportedly placed defenseman Dylan McIlrath on waivers.

McIlrath’s cap hit is $800,000. He can become a restricted free agent this summer. He was the 10th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Rangers.

McIlrath posted 2 goals and 2 assists in 34 games played with the Rangers in 2015-16. He ranked second on the Rangers - and led team defense- men - in hits per game. He posted a plus-one rating while making his NHL playoff debut in Game 2 of the First Round at PIT on Apr. 16.

The Winnipeg, Manitoba native skated in one game with the Rangers in 2014-15, and in 2013-14, made his NHL debut on Dec. 12, 2013 against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

In the AHL in 2014-15 with the Hartford Wolf Pack, McIlrath established AHL career-highs in games played (73) and shots on goal (78), and tied AHL career-highs in goals (six), assists (11), points (17), game-winning goals (two), and penalty minutes (165). He led Hartford in penalty minutes, tied for fourth on the team in games played, and ranked second among team defensemen in goals.
