Alain
Vigneault signed a contract extension with the New York Rangers on
Tuesday. Terms of the contract were not released but the New York Post
reported it would be for two seasons, carrying Vigneault through the
2019-20 season.
Vigneault, 55, is 175-97-23 since becoming
Rangers coach in 2013. In his first season the Rangers reached the 2014
Stanley Cup Final, which they lost to the Los Angeles Kings in five
games.
The Rangers are 31-17-1 this season, fourth in the
Metropolitan Division. They've scored 165 goals, the second-most in the
NHL. They play the Columbus Blue Jackets at Madison Square Garden on
Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; MSG 2, FS-O, NHL.TV).
In 1,101 NHL games,
Vigneault is 597-385-84 with 35 ties with the Montreal Canadiens,
Vancouver Canucks and Rangers in 15 seasons.
