The story of the game, Flyers goaltender Steve Mason stopping all 36 shots against. The Flyers defeated the Rangers tonight on the back of their goaltender. The Rangers ran circles around Philadelphia for the first 44 minutes, out shooting and out playing them for most of the game until the dreaded first penalty kill of the night came along.
After 40 minutes of scoreless hockey and 6:09 into the third period the Flyers struck first on the power play when Matt Puempel was called for tripping to take the 1-0 lead. The Rangers anemic power play now 0 for the last 14 attempts could not score on their 3 chances tonight. The Flyers added their 2nd goal just after the Rangers 3rd power play could not convert.
Henrik Lundqvist stopped 24 of 26 shots but did not get the help he needed in front on the 2 Philadelphia goals as his defense could not clear out players in front.
The Rangers are now off for the 2017 All Star Break and will not play again until Tuesday January 31st against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
