In what looked to be a Rangers night at MSG when just 11 seconds into the first period former Ranger Brandon Dubinsky was called for hooking leading to an early New York Power Play. The Rangers peppered Columbus goaltender Korpisalo for much of the early period only to allow a goal on the Blue Jackets first shot of the game. The Rangers went to the locker room at the end of one period down 1-0.
The second period the wheels fell off for the Rangers with 4 unanswered goals by the Jackets. The first two of the period chased starter Henrik Lundqvist to the bench in favor of the returning Antti Raanta who gave up three goals of his own including an early third period goal over his shoulder to make it 6-0 in favor of the visitors.
Under three minutes in the Rangers started a comeback with goals by Jimmy Vesey, Michael Grabner and Chris Kreider within a four minute span. After a quick timeout by Columbus head coach John Torterella the Jackets righted the ship and regained some resemblance of their defensive game. The Rangers added a late period goal from Kevin Klein to round out the scoring.
Rangers return to action on Thursday in Buffalo taking on the Sabres.
