RANGERS VS AVALANCHE GAME DAY WRAP UP 10/16

LUNDQVIST HOLDS ON IN SHOOTOUT FOR 3-2 RANGERS WIN

A back and forth game between the Rangers and Avalanche with saw both goaltenders keep it either a 1 goal game or tied during regulation and 3 on 3 overtime ended with a Rangers win.

Henrik Lundqvist who stopped 31 of 33 shots allowed only one Colorado goal during the shootout period to  Mikko Rantanen but was able to thwart Nathan MacKinnon and Gabriel Landeskog. Seymon Varlomov who stopped 41 Rangers shots in the game gave up goals to Mats Zuccarello in the first round and Kevin Shattenkirk in the third round while Mika Zibanejad missed his chance when he went to switch from forehand to backhand and lost control of the puck.

Chris Kreider opened up the scoring with his third of the season in the first period. Kevin Hayes added his first tally of the season in the second period. Both goals were assists from Mats Zuccarello and Kevin Shattenkirk, trading the primary on each of the two. Zuccarello now has 5 assists on the season.

The Rangers power play was only 1 for 6 on the night while the penalty kill was able to stop Colorado 2 out of 3 times.
