Rangers look to gain ground off overtime win on Thursday

The Rangers come into this afternoon's contest looking to ride their first win of the 2018-2019 season and pick up their second of the season. In Thursday's win over a rough and tough San Jose Sharks, Henrik Lundqvist held on for the Blueshirts with 41 saves while Brett Howden picked up his 2nd goal of the season and Defensemen Brendan Smith and Brady Skjei each tallied a goal to lead New York over San Jose 3-2.

After sitting Thursday, both Kevin Shattenkirk and Neal Pionk will return to the Rangers lineup. The rest of the lineup will remain the same with a few tweaks to pairings and lines. Henrik Lundqvist will once again the the start in net.

A desperate Edmonton team comes into the contest where the Rangers were on Thursday, they are 0-2-0 to start the season. Beginning the season with a 5-2 loss to New Jersey last Saturday in Sweden and then dropping a 4-1 decision to the Boston Bruins Thursday the Oilers remain the league's only team without a point.

This is the first of two meetings between the teams this season. The Rangers are on a five-game winning streak against the Oilers since taking a 7-5 loss Dec. 11, 2015, in Edmonton. It is New York's longest win streak against Edmonton in team history.
