PIONK LIFTS RANGERS OVER ISLES IN OVERTIME

RANGERS POST GAME WRAP UP

A full 60 minutes of regulation play plus 2:31 of overtime is what it took for Neal Pionk to propel the Rangers over the Islanders 1-0. Assisted by Boo Nieves and 2017 first round draft pick Lias Andersson, Pionk spun around Islanders defenseman Brock Nelson and put one short side past goaltender Eamon McAdam to give the Rangers the single goal win in the first preseason game of 2017.

A shared shutout victory for Rangers goaltending tandem of Andrej Pavelec and Brandon Halverson who combined for 17 saves on the night. Pavelec played 40 minutes stopping 10 of those shots while Halverson stopped 7 in 22:31 of ice time. The Rangers ammased 41 shots on goal for the game.

Both teams were blanked on the power play, each going 0-8 on the evening in a minor penalty filled contest.
