RANGERS VS DEVILS POST GAME WRAP UP 9/23

RANGERS FALL TO DEVILS ON LATE GOAL 3-2

In an overall physical game which is always expected of the Hudson River Rivalry the Rangers fell victim to a late third period goal from NJ’s Drew Strafford. Up until then tied at one the only goals came from each team's power play units. The teams end the preseason matchup tied with one win a piece.

Prospect Brandon Crawley scored on a scorcher of a shot during the Rangers man advantage early in the third period. The New Jersey born Crawley is another young prospect looking to take a spot on the main roster this season.

Lias Andersson who tallied an assist on the Rangers only goal played another decent game and showed flashes of why the Rangers drafted him as their number one pick this past summer. Andersson along with free agent signing Filip Chytil both have a chance of making the opening night roster.

Henrik Lundqvist shouldered the majority of playing time in net for the Rangers playing both the first and second periods allowing one goal.

Brandon Halverson replaced Lundqvist to start the third and impressed making some beautiful saves and allowed the game winner and burdened the loss for the night.

Andrew Desjardins who is with the Rangers on a PTO was called for a match penalty in the first period earning himself an early exit. Desjardins may have lost his chance which albeit slim already to impress the coaches and earn a spot in the organization. With two games left it’s a matter of if he gets a chance to showcase himself.

The Rangers have two games remaining, both against Philadelphia. Lundqvist will start Monday’s game at MSG and is slated to play the entirety. Backup Ondreji Pavelec is slated to play the entire game of the game in Philly.
