Rangers can't solve Halak, fall to Isles 4-2
Despite peppering Islanders gaoltender Jaroslav Halak with 10 shots on goal during a four minute man advantage during the first period and 38 throughout the Rangers just could not pull one out for a victory in Brooklyn tonight. Whether the game was the biggest loss tonight or losing forwards Rick Nash to a lower body injury and Matt Puempel with a head injury after taking a cross check to the face in the first period from Islanders Brock Nelson.
Already down leading scorer Michael Grabner who returned to Austria due to his Grandmother's passing the Rangers skated most of the game with only 10 forwards. With Puempel already out early in the first the Rangers were double shifting Rick Nash for most of the game until he suddenly pulled up lame and retreated to the Rangers locker room not to return for half of the second period and the entire third.
Both Rangers goals came in the second period. First was a goal by Jimmy Vesey from a Rick nash feed to cut the Isles lead to 2-1 and then on a beautiful give and go with Chris Kreider and J.T. Miller Marc Staal made and ever more beautiful fake pass and put one past the Isles netminder to once again bring the Rangers within one goal 3-2. But the Rangers could not hold on and gave up a power play goal in the 3rd period that sealed the fate of this game. Even up 6 on 3 power play in the last minutes of the game didn't help, ending the game 4-2 in the Isles zone.
Rangers return to action on Thursday 12/8 in Winnipeg to take on the Jets. Game Time 8:00 PM.
