RNYRF 2017 PLAYOFFS POST GAME RECAP: RANGERS vs CANADIENS, GAME 4 4.18.17

Rangers Down Habs 2-1 Even Series 2-2

In what was a much better team showing and a much better crowd showing the Rangers won their first home playoff game in the last 6 games played at MSG.

A nice full 60 minute performance by the Rangers with 23 saves from Henrik Lundqvist helped the Rangers pick up the win.

Jesper Fast put the Rangers ahead 1-0 close to the halfway point of the first period. The Rangers held the lead until less than two minutes left in the first when Torrey Mitchell scored on a Canadiens 2 on 1 break against Rangers D-Man Nick Holden. The play actually should have been called back due to both the Rangers and Montreal both having too many men on the ice.

Rangers coach Alain Vigneault adamantly went after the linesman before the start of the second period complaining about the missed call and subsequent Canadiens goal.

Just under five minutes into the second period Rick Nash took a pass from Ryan McDonagh and crashed the net putting one by Canadiens goaltender Carey Price for the 2-1 lead and the eventual game winning goal.

The third period was a very chippy period with many penalties left uncalled, two by Canadiens Alexander Radulov on Rangers Brendan Smith. One a slash across the wrist which sent Smith to the bench in severe pain and a second by Radulov again on Smith, an elbow that opened a cut on Smith.

What carries over into game 5 come Thursday in Montreal will be seen.
