Today in NYR History 10/7:


1937: The Rangers trade Charlie Mason to the New York Americans in exchange for cash considerations with the Rangers holding right of recall. 



1948: The Rangers acquire Emile Francis and Alex Kaleta from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for "Sugar" Jim Henry.


1949: The Rangers acquire Pat Egan from the Boston Bruins in exchage for Bill Moe, future considerations  and the rights to Lorne Ferguson.


1991: Mark Messier is introduced as the 22nd captain in Rangers history in a pre-game ceremony prior to the Blueshirts’ home opener. Messier would set up Mike Gartner’s game-winning goal in a 2-1 overtime victory over the Boston Bruins.


2001: In the Rangers’ first regular season game in New York after the 9/11 tragedy, Brian Leetch scores the overtime winner in a 5-4 Rangers victory over the Buffalo Sabres at MSG. 


2001:Mike Richter becomes the first Rangers goaltender to appear in 600 games.


2005: The Rangers acquire Fedor Fedorov from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Jozef Balej and the 2006 5th round entry draft pick.
