RANGERS VS HURRICANES POST GAME WRAP UP 10/7

DESPITE 5 GOAL PRODUCTION RANGERS FALL TO CANES IN THIRD PERIOD 8-5

Two hungry young teams took the ice this afternoon, the New York Rangers looking for their first win of the season and the Carolina Hurricanes who were looking for their first home ice win. Action wise both teams did not disappoint fro Opening faceoff to final buzzer.

Despite seeing both Jimmy Vesey and Chris Kreider finally break out of their scoring droughts with two goals a piece and Pavel Buchnevich's 2nd of the season the Rangers could not hold onto their lead in Carolina. Whether it be defensive breakdowns or the fact that a young Rangers team could not get used to playing it's first back to back games just 19 hours apart comes into question.

The Rangers took the lead four during the game once in the first on goals from Vesey and Kreider to take the 2-0 lead before the halfway mark of the first period only to head into intermission tied 2-2.

In the second, Vesey gave the Rangers their 2nd lead 3-2, only to have Carolina once again tie the game 3-3. Pavel Buchnevich would once again give the Rangers the lead and the teams first power play goal of the season off a rebound of a shot that hit the post by Tony DeAngelo. DeAngelo making his first appearance of the season as a 7th defenseman with winger Vinni Lettieri sitting as a healthy scratch.

Carolina would tie the game 4-4 before the end of the second period, Chris Kreider gave the Rangers their last lead of the game opening the third period scoring with his 2nd of the game. Carolina would go on to score four unanswered goals including an empty netter in the final minute of play for their first win on home ice.

Although allowing 7 goals on 40 shots backup Alexandar Georgiev showed signs of solid goaltending skills that earned him the spot behind incumbent Henrik Lundqvist. Brett Howden once again played hard and was a play maker once again for the Rangers picking up an assist on Kreider's first goal. Vlad Namestnikov who was a healthy scratch the previous night in Buffalo returned to the lineup and played hard in the corners, he finished the game a plus 1 with an assist, 2 shots on goal and 1 hit.
