Rangers Offense a No Show in 4-1 Loss to Chicago
Not much to take out of this game on the upside for Rangers fans except for the Rangers possibly dodged a bullet late in the second period when rookie defenseman Neal Pionk went down after taking a deflected puck to the face, Pionk who has been one of the Rangers best players at both ends of the ice immediately dropped grabbing his face but was able to get up under his own power to make it to the Rngers bench. Immediately Pionk sat while trainer Jim Ramsay checked the rookie out. The Rangers now who had already lost defenseman Adam McQuaid in the first period to a lower body injury had another teammate in question going into the third period. It didn't take long for Rangers fans to relax as Pionk was out for the first shift in the third period.
Henrik Lundqvist stopped 32 of 36 shots on net giving up 3 goals and an empty net goal late in the third while pulled for the extra skater sealed the Rangers loss. Pavel Buchnevich was the only Ranger to get a tally tonight for his third goal of the season off a beautiful play started in the Chicago zone by Brett Howden.
From the beginning the Blackhawks had a plan and that was to shut down the Rangers top line of Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad and Mats Zuccarello and except for a few occasions did a pretty good job handling the trio that tallied a combined 7 points in the Rangers previous game against Florida.
The third period summed up the frustration for New York as they were held to only one shot on goal for the 20 minutes.
