Rangers Defeat Jackets 3-2 Win 6th Straight

Jimmy Vesey scored a third period game winning goal and Antti Raanta stopped 30 of 32 shots on goal to defeat the Metro Division second place Blue Jackets.

The first period was uneventful for the Rangers as they fell behind 1-0 on a goal by former Ranger Brandon Dubinsky, but just 12 seconds into the second period the Rangers Dan Girardi scored a short handed goal to tie the game 1-1.

Heading intothe third period tied at 1 the Rangers took the lead when Kevin Hayes put one past Jackets' goalie Bobrovsky just under five minutes in. The Jackets came back and tied the game 2-2 at 11:53 on a goal by Nick Foligno until just under 2 minutes later Vesey scored what would be the game winner.

In the final minutes the Blue Jackets with the extra attacker rallied in the Rangers zone but could not cash in for the tie.

The Rangers and Columbus are now tied with 2 wins each in the season series.

Rangers forward J.T. Miller picked up an assist to extend his points scoring streak to 7 games (2 goals, 9 assists).

Kevin Hayes now leads the NHL in shorthanded assists (five) and shorthanded points (six) this season.

The Rangers return to action on Thursday in Brooklyn to take on the Islanders at 7:00 PM.
