Down by one in the first period after a turnover in the Rangers zone when Nick Holden tied up Henrik Lundvist and the Canadiens were able to allow a wrap around goal. The Rangers were able to take a 1-1 tie to the locker room with a goal by Oscar Lindberg, his 3rd of the season.
Nick Holden took an interference penalty early in the second which led to a Montreal power play goal and a 2-1 lead. The Rangers once again answered back when Rick Nash who missed a breakaway attempt a few minutes earlier finally cashed in on his second breakaway attempt taking it to intermission tied at 2.
Neither team could get an advantage in the third and went to 4 on 4 Overtime. Overtime was back and forth chances for both teams and ended with Habs' goalie Carey Price robbing J.T. Miller with a spectacular save.
In the shootout only Mats Zuccarello scored for the Rangers as it went to the 5th round where Montreal was able to beat Lundqvist for the win. The Rangers picked up one point in the standings for the regulation tie.
Lundqvist ended the night with 26 saves on 28 shots. The Rangers were able to get 30 shots on net but were 0 for 4 on the power play which was a huge difference in the game with Montreal cashing in on one of their three opportunities.
The Rangers return to action on Thursday in Toronto taking on the Maple Leafs, game time 7:30 pm.
