RANGERS VS FLYERS PRESEASON GAME DAY WRAP UP 9/27


Rangers Hold On to Defeat Flyers in Preseason Finale 4-2

The Rangers finished their 2018 Preseason campaign on a high note tonight defeating the Flyers in Philadelphia 4-2 to finish with a record of 3-2-0 with two wins coming in overtime.

Vinni Lettieri continued to impress and make his stand for a roster spot for this season. Lettieri was arguably the best player for the Rangers during a scoreless first period and continued into the second period registering the game's first goal on the power play giving New York the 1-0 lead. He led all skaters with four shots on goal in 19:07 of ice time.

Vladislav Namestnikov recorded two points (one goal, one assist), including the game-winning goal on a power play, and was credited with two hits in 18:24 of ice time.

Kevin Hayes tallied two points (one goal, one assist), including a power play assist, and recorded two shots on goal in 18:54 of ice time. Hayes' tally came towards the end of the game with the Flyers net empty, Goaltender Carey Hart was pulled for the extra attacker.

Brett Howden registered a goal, won 10 of 18 faceoffs (55.6%), and posted a plus-one rating in tonight's game and was selected as the game's First Star.

Kevin Shattenkirk, Jimy Vesey and Brendan Smith all tallied assists in the game. Shattenkirk recorded 2 assists and both were primary assists on power play goals. Shattenkirk was selected as the game's Second Star.

Lias Andersson tied for the game-high with 10 faceoff wins (10-for-14; 71.4%).

Alexandar Georgiev stopped 26 of 28 shots he faced. Georgiev made 14 saves on 16 shots in the third period allowing goals from Philadelphia's  Ivan Provorov and James van Riemsdyk but held on  to earn a win in tonight's game.

The Rangers special teams were 2 for 2 on the power play with Lettieri and Namestnikov registering the goals. The Rangers penalty Kill held the Flyers scoreless in two opportunities.
