RANGERS VS SENATORS POST GAME WRAP UP 11/26

RANGERS TAKE FIRST OF HOME AND HOME GAMES 4-2
Staal's & Andersson's first goals of the season spark Rangers past Sens

The Rangers two game losing streak has come to an end. After having lost back to back games to Philadelphia and Washington this past Friday and Saturday in afternoon matinee we would not say the Rangers were in desperate need of a win after going 10-3-2 in their last 15 games but it was a much needed win for New York tonight to regain their home ice advantage that they have been riding for most of the young season.

Marc Stall netted his first of the season to open the scoring just past the midway point of the first period only to have Ottawa even it up when Mark Stone tabbed his first of two in the game to even it up 1-1. The even up would last through a wild second which saw the Rangers hit numerous posts , just millimeters away from the Blueshirts regaining the lead.

The Rangers didn't have to wait long to retake the lead in the third when at 3:26 in, a Mark Strome shot hit Lias Andersson in the backside  and past Ottawa's Craig Anderson for the rookie's long awaited first goal of the season. Not a pretty tally but a point on the scoreboard none the less. The goal was challenged by the Sens for goaltender interference as both Andersson & Anderson connected skate to skate as the puck went over the line. After a quick review the goal stood and the Rangers took the lead 2-1.

Chris Kreider would score his team leading 13th of the season to put the Rangers ahead for good just under 5 minutes later 3-1.

Great goaltending continued between Anderson and Rangers starter Henrik Lundqvist to keep the game scoreless until Ottawa with three  plus minutes on the clock pulled Anderson in favor of the extra skater. The early pull of Anderson would pay off as Mark Stone cut the Rangers lead to 1 with his 2nd tally of the game making it 3-1 with just under 3 minutes remaining. After the faceoff Ottawa went by the old tried but true of going with what works and pulled Anderson once again. This time however the Rangers after a turnover at center ice caused by Vladislav Namestnikov giving up the body and taking a questionable hit from Thomas Chabot which looked as though it was a shoulder to the jaw caused the turnover and while he was just getting back to the bench teammate Mika Zibanejad put the final tally into Ottawa's empty net for the 4-2 win.

Te Rangers penalty kill was 2 for 2 tonight but the power play went 0 for 3.

Henrik Lundqvist picked up the win and first star honor with 29 saves on the night. Although the Rangers home winning streak ended at 7 on Saturday with the loss to Washington, Lundqvist extended his MSG winning streak to 6 games with the victory.

Mika Zibanejad picked up the second starwith two points on the night, the empty net goal and the primary assist on Marc Stall's first period goal.

Lias Andersson is the third rookie to register a goal this season for the Rangers along with Filip Chytil and Brett Howden.

Through the first 25 games this season, 21 different players have tallied a goal for the Rangers. Prior to 2018-19, the last time the Rangers had 21 different players register at least one goal through the first 25 games of a season was 1988-89.

The Rangers are off until Thursday when they play the second of the home and home in Ottawa. Meanwhile Ottawa heads to Philadelphia to take on the Flyers tonight.
