RANGERS VS PENGUINS ECQF GAME 3 RECAP

Rangers @ Penguins Post Game Recap Game 3 ECQF

McDonagh returns for Game 3, Rangers fall to Pens 3-1
@RNYRF Staff Report
The rumor all day became reality and Rangers Captain Ryan McDonagh made his post season debut after missing the final 3 games of the regular season and Games 1 and 2 of the ECQF First Round with a hand injury suffered on a slapshot by Blue Jackets Brandon Dubinsky.
Both the Rangers and Penguins played an even first period with both teams coming up scoreless. The Rangers did have a goal taken away on a video review showing they were offsides in the first period. Rangers started out the second period strong, just 39 seconds in with the Pens starting the power play Rick Nash tok a pass from defenseman Kevin Klein and rushed in alone on Pens goalie Matt Murray and scored the short handed goal putting the Rangers up 1-0. The Rangers kept Pittsburgh off the board until Marc Staal was called for hooking with 1:00 left in the second and Pens Sidney Crosby tied the game on the power play. Just 4:14 into the 3rd ex-Ranger Matt Cullen put the Pens up 2-1 and they never looked back. Kris Letang added an empty net goal with 12 seconds remaining to give the Pens the 3-1 win.
Seemed as though the Rangers lost their momentum in the first period when Chris Kreider's power play goal was overturned after a Pittsburgh coach's challenge went in their favor on a New York offsides video review. Although the Rangers socred the first goal of the game it seemed as though that was a turning point in the game. From there on it seemed to go downhill. Both teams played a solid second period but the Rangers were held to just 4 shots on goal in the 3rd period where all of their chances were one and done. Matt Cullen's early 3rd period goal was just the nail in the coffin on Game 3.
Rangers and Penguins return to action on Thursday for Game 4 at MSG.
