Rangers Shake Things Up
Looking to add some "new blood" into the lineup the New York Rangers traded away fan favorite Derick Brassard to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for young forward Mika Zibanejadand a 2nd round pick in the 2017 NHL entry Draft. Zibanejad has one-year left on his contract with a $2.625M and will be an RFA come next season. In what looks to be both a shakeup and a "salary dump" for the Rangers with Brassard due 5M for the next 3 years with a no trade clause attached most fans seem annoyed by the move as Brassard seemed to be coming into his own in New York. Whether this is just the tip of the iceberg for moves by GM Jeff Gorton this off season remains to be seen but, the consensus around the league is the Rangers are not done yet.
